This is a sponsored post by Wellstar Medical Group, but the thoughts and opinions are my own!
As you all know we are getting ready to head out on a three week vacation. It has been in the works for a while now. I have also recently had some health issues and that has made think about ensuring I have a medical care plan on hand. While my issues are more than enough to worry me with Sam spending much of that time away from me with his father I needed the security of knowing he would be taken care of.
Medical ID
I made sure that Sam had an updated medical id bracelet as well as a small file with all of his medical information. His medication list, doctor’s names, and phone numbers. Any and everything I thought he may need in an emergency. I got one for myself also and made sure it listed the medication that sent me to the ER listed on there. I have my epi-pens at the ready as well.
Insurance Policy
I went through our insurance policies and verified in-network doctors and/or hospitals that we would be near during our stays. Any questions I had, I called and asked. I wanted to make sure I understood everything before I had to use it. My insurance company was great and answered all of my questions without hanging up on me. I’m sure they wanted to. I made sure that providers I was considering using (if needed) were in network or would at the least accept the insurance we had.
A Local Provider
I did research and found that WellStar Medical Group, ENT has an office in Roswell and Cumming which is where Sam will be. That could not be more comforting for me. If you aren’t familiar with them they are a friendly staff that offers several services including nasal and sinus specialists, allergies, swallowing challenges, hearing aids, disorders of the ear, and pediatric care.
Sam can be seen by Dr.Vivek Gurudutt if needed. Dr. Gurudutt specializes in head and neck oncology. He has extensive experience in the surgical treatment of head and neck cancers/tumors, thyroid/parathyroid surgery, salivary gland surgery, and neck masses. He has certification in the use of robotic surgery in treating cancer and sleep apnea. Those specialties is why I put WellStar Medical Group, ENT on speed dial in my cell phone today. I also taped their phone number in his suitcase.
Trust
Since I am planning things as best I can ahead of time I took the time to read the testimonials before I made any sort of decision. I realize that I could just as easily left all of this to my ex. If Sam has an issue he will take him to clinic or call me. So I have a plan in place to get to him and get him the care he needs right away. After reading testimonials such as these:
It’s rare to find a doctor who doesn’t rush through the patient appointment. Dr. Gurudutt is such a man, listening attentively to his patient, explaining his thought process as he narrowed down possible causes and treatment options and demonstrating a kind, intelligent, yet humble bedside manner. I wish more doctors were like him! Bonus: Sense of humor and minimal time in office waiting room.
Dr. Gurudutt was very thorough in his diagnosis and monitored my case very closely. Because of his quick diagnosis we were able to establish follow up procedures in a timely manner. He treated me as a sister and gave me very sound advice. He also spoke to me in a clear and concise way that I could understand everything we were keeping an eye on. Thanks to him I was able to monitor my health and make decisions that benefited both me and my family.
I knew right away that Dr. Gurudutt was the best choice for my list. Sam has enough issues and he doesn’t need me to not trust the doctor he is seeing. Dr. Gurudutt and WellStar Medical Group, ENT had nothing but good reviews and testimonials. I knew I could trust his care. Another thing I like about Dr. Gurudutt is that he was part of the World Trade Center Program in providing care for police officers and firemen affected by 9/11. That means a lot to me.
Back Up Plan
I did create a back up plan of a sorts. My sister lives near Cumming where Sam will be.I gave her a copy of his medical records along with his insurance card. She can get to him while I am on my way. He will get teh care he needs and I will have peace of mind knwoing she is with him.
I know all of this sounds like overkill but when you have a child that has particular needs you have to plan. I never want him to feel like he is anything but the happy go-lucky child he is. He already feels so different than his twin sister. She can run and do all of the things he can’t. I refuse to deny him this trip. WellStar Medical Group gives me the confidence to allow it.
