This amazing giveaway hop thanks to MamatheFox is all about the dads. For those you don’t already know my dad passed away in 2000. He spent eight months battling congestive heart failure. He had been on the transplant list only to be taken off because his diabetes got out of control. It was hard on all of us especially my mother.

I have so many wonderful memories of my dad. He was our biggest champion and always so proud. One time I got Employee of the Month at work and didn’t tell anyone. When he found out he came in to see my picture and honestly you would have thought I cured cancer with how proud he was. He always told us we could do anything. He would get up on weekends occasionally and say we needed to take a trip. He was a huge military history buff and we have been to most battle sites all over the world. We went to see the Memphis Belle, Auschwitz, Gettysburg, you name it and he took us if he could. We would get up and drive for hours for so many different things. Things we spent the day doing and then drive home. He would get up in the middle of the night and say lets go to Walmart. It drove my mother up a wall sometimes. Now, looking back I wouldn’t trade those moments for all the money in the world.

My dad passed away in 1988 at age 50 from brain cancer. I have one particular memory that always makes me laugh. My dad, mom, brother and I were getting ready to go out. My dad was sitting on a chair in the kitchen, bent over, putting his shoes on. I was leaning up against the counter. My mom was in the bedroom. dad asked mom how long she would be because he had to stop and get gas. to that, she answered, ‘for what?’. My dad looked up at me, rolled his eyes, and said, ‘for my airplane’. It was so funny. In defense of my mom, my dad did have a chainsaw that he might have needed gas for. My dad was a kind and loving man, never raised his voice and, to my brother and I, was absolutely the best dad anyone could have ever wished for. I try not to think of him as gone, only…until we meet again……
