When I was young, about 8 or 9 we lived in a small town near where I live now. When I say small I mean there are no grocery stores, a gas station, and I walked to school everyday because we lived around the corner. We drive through there often as it is on our way to the next major city. The other day I stopped to walk around and take a couple of pictures. The lane in the picture above actually leads to the house we lived in. Isn’t just pretty? I wanted to walk up and take a picture of the house but I was only going to be there a few minutes and I didn’t want the family living there now thinking I was some sort of crazy lady.
This building is a doctor’s office and was that when I lived there. It used to be a Train Depot and I just love the look of the building. There is honestly just something about it that speaks to me. The light next to the door though does strange things when the sun starts to go down. I am guessing it is knows that the sun is going down and starts to come on but it flashes before it stays steady.
This building was a storage building for the church Thrift Store but I am unsure what it is now. It looks as though it hasn’t been used in the last few years. There used to be train tracks that ran in front of it but they have gone through the entire county and pulled them up. In fact I remember one year when the train turned over in our backyard. There were wood chips everywhere.
Tell me about the town you grew up in!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

That is neat. I grew up in the country. We didn’t have any stores nearby either. We went into town once a week. So my siblings and I sure did get creative and entertained ourselves.

your town was very small! Growing up in a small town has its advantages and disadvantages. I grew up in country and experienced much that city kids never did and I am sure it was for you too

I grew up in a rural town, had to drive 25 minutes to any kind of store. I liked we could play outside and no fears of anything we worry about today. There were so many trees and lots of garden veggies. We would wait till the list got long before going to the store, which when we went to the stores, they knew us by name. But that was then, now a day it’s just not as safe and all the people shopping in those stores.

I grew up in a city and now live out in suburbia! Thanks for sharing your trip down memory lane, sounds like a real sweet small place to live! I walked to and from elementary and high school too but visits back to my old hood see many changes too. More traffic, old houses torn down and bigger newer houses with less garden taking their places… Downtown the sky line is a concrete jungle of apartments and high rises!

I grew up in a small town too. It’s still standing but no grocery stores or gas stations either, actually it did have a grocery store for years and has closed in the last two years. Sad 🙁
