We love music here in my home and whenever we get the chance to listen to Spanish music we do. The kids listen to it a lot in the car as well. So when we were offered Mister G ABC Fiesta we jumped at it.
Mister G (or Ben Gundersheimer) is an indie rocker turned award-winning children’s musician who’s blended his passion for, and formal education in, music, with his love for and travels through Latin America. The result is ABC Fiesta, his literacy-themed, bilingual CD that was released on September 28th, 2013 in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Songs such as Cocodrilo and Ratones have a more distinctive Latin beat, but overall the album has influences from the worlds of reggae, folk music, funk, zydeco, and other styles. All in all the songs are great and they are really easy to follow along with and learn. All the while learning a little bit of Spanish along the way.
One thing I really like is the language tidbits about different words in different countries. One of the best examples of this is using the word frijoles (beans in English) in a lot of Spanish speaking countries frijoles is the word used. It is in Mexico but then if I were to go to Puerto Rico they would be called habichelas. It is a mistake that a lot of people make, thinking all Spanish countries speak the same Spanish language (even online translators make the same mistake. Mexican Spanish is different than Span Spanish.)
It’s like how here in the south a Coke means any sort of soda you have while if you go up north a Coke means a Coke and a soda means anything you got. We all have our languages and sometimes they mesh and sometimes they don’t.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
