Another month is coming to an end and spring has certainly sprung in some parts of the country. We have had a few days of really cold weather. Not that I have really gotten to experience much in the past month. I will certainly not say that this month has been easy for me but I have a feeling that things are going to get harder before they get easier.
What I Have Been Up To
Normally I go over all the things I have been doing but the truth is I haven’t been doing much of anything. Just lying in the bed and doing what the doctors and nurses told me to. Now I am back home and it is much more difficult than I thought it would be.
I am in a wheelchair because I can’t use my left side. That means we had to move my desk chair out and one dining room chair. Those are the easiest parts. My uncle took the bathroom door off so I can get the wheelchair in there.
Since my bathroom is so small, doing things in there is easy once I get in there. I am able to prop myself up against the wall and use my right side to get things done. Thank God I am right handed. We added a stool in the shower that I can sit on.
I do have home health care that comes everyday to help me get some things done. The lady is great, she helps me get a shower by washing my hair and shaving my left leg. Yeah, there is no such thing as embarrassment anymore! Ma and my uncle do most of the cooking at the moment. Although we did buy an electric skillet ( I will be sharing later) that isn’t heavy and allows me to cook without having to pick the pan up and such.
At the moment I am learning to do things differently and trying to get the strength and use of my left side back. The wheelchair makes getting around both ways and difficult. I can’t move myself because I can’t make both wheels move. I refuse to buy an electric one because that means I am accepting that I may not ever get anything back.
Luckily, our house is ranch style. I use my right leg to scoot my chair when I need to. When I have to go outside my uncle or nurse pushes me. After the second night of having to wake someone to get me to the bathroom I decided I would do it on my own. It took me way longer than it should have but I got myself up, into the chair, and then to the bathroom.
I was able to get to my right foot, and then sort of hop twice to the toilet. I wear a nightgown so that means I just needed to pull it up and get my drawers down. It took some work but I did it on my own. Ma was not happy with me but the nurse was impressed when she came the next day.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

March was a very busy month for me. I had a lot of doctor appointments and had to make a trip to the SSA office, trying to keep everything going in the midst of apartment hunting, packing and cleaning. I am going to need a vacation after we get settled into our new apartment wherever that may be!

March hasn’t been too bad. I am still dealing with that one cat. I’m in full spring-cleaning mode. I have thrown so much away. I sure hope the cold weather is behind us.

March is a month of emotions for me and my family. My sister, Diane’s birthday is March 14. She passed March 26, 1999 just after her 30th birthday. Her loss still hits our family. We try and celebrate her every year.
