That’s right another coffee post! I told you, a lot of coffee gets consumed at my house and not all by me. This time it is the Moustache Coffee Club, which is a coffee curation club. What they do is find fabulous freshly roasted single origin coffee beans each week and send them to members. Now I am going to be honest and say that I have no idea what single origin coffee beans are but that is okay I can pretend I do and be a coffee snob. Right?
Now this coffee is a bit different in that you get 1 bag instead of a couple of smaller ones. It is whole beans but you all know how much I enjoy grinding my own coffee and as I have said before it actually tastes better if you grind it yourself. It is shipped via USPS to you each week which I must say that I love because then I don’t have to worry about running to the store because I am out of coffee.
The coffee that received back in January was from Alana’s Coffee Roasting Co. which is located in Los Angeles. While the coffee is from Alana’s the beans themselves are from Columbia and were roasted by hand. Each week there are tasting notes with your coffee that tells you a little about it and the notes about this particular bean say there were“floral aroma, cherries, vanilla and pink grapefruit”flavors. Knowing the flavors ahead of time can be a double edged sword. The reason is that you spend so much time trying to find the flavors that you don’t always just enjoy the coffee.
Honestly I could taste the vanilla a bit but that was all. I didn’t worry myself with the blend of flavors. Instead I closed my eyes and simply enjoyed the coffee for what it was, a great cup of coffee that didn’t require anything extra in it. Whenever I review coffee I taste it straight black so that I get the actually flavor and taste. I don’t like black coffee but I think it is not fair to the coffee or the roaster if I say I don’t like a coffee if I have added cream, sugar, or anything else. It may not be the coffee but the additives. So to finish this cup off straight black says a lot about this blend to me.
