Movie Review: The Boxtrolls

Jan 15, 2015 | Rita

The Boxtrolls

I was access to a screening of the movie in order to facilitate my review. However all opinions expressed are 100% my own.

I have been waiting to see this movie and now I am really glad that I did. The so much that I really liked about this movie but I have to tell you that the definition of “What’s a father?” was the most precious thing I have ever heard. I actually laughed out loud several times during this movie even the kids ended it. They usually complain when we have to watch a movie on the computer.

THE BOXTROLLS is a 2014 animated fantasy-comedy film based on the novel “Here Be Monsters!” by Alan Snow. The movie follows the adventures of Eggs, a human boy raised by trash-collecting trolls, as he attempts to save them from Archibald Snatcher, a pest exterminator. Released last month to generally positive reviews, THE BOXTROLLS has generated over $46M thus far at the U.S. Box Office. We will position the home entertainment release as an entertaining, energetic, Dove-approved family film with a strong moral worldview that teaches positive lessons about doing the right thing and judging people by their “gentle and quiet spirit” as opposed to their outer appearance. While the dialogue includes valuable discussion of “good versus evil,” the film does contain some edgy content that makes it problematic for viewers under 10-12. It is, however, funny, clever, exciting, and sometimes even profound, and we can recommend it to families across the denominational spectrum.

The Boxtrolls is the one movie that I will be rushing out to add to our movie collection when it comes out on Blu-Ray and DVD on 1/20/15. It teaches children that no matter how your family looks or how unconventional it is by society standards they are still your family. For us that is important because we are a mixed bag around here. As much as I love Eggs I must say that Fish is my favorite character though. Be sure to look for it and enjoy all the fun!

My daughter and I saw the trailer before a different film and thought it looked really good. We wanted to see it in the theater but didn’t make it. We will definitely rent this when it comes out!

I have not seen this but my oldest saw it in the theater with my husband. She’s been asking if we can buy it on DVD. I like the animation style.

I can’t wait to see this movie! I remember reading the book with my daughter and we loved the book. I have heard so many good things about the movie. I also really like the meaning of the story. Every family is unique in it’s on way.

The meaning is the one that sold me on this movie back when it was just hitting theaters. I love that!
