Movie Review – Ice Age: Continential Drift

Dec 05, 2012 | Rita

I have seen all of the Ice Age movies and I would have to say that this film and the original, are my two most favorite movies of the franchise. Ice Age: Continental Drift leaves off where the last movie left off (to some extent). Manny (Ray Romano) and Ellie’s (Queen Latifah) daughter Peaches (Nicki Minaj) is now a typical teenager who has a crush on a boy and goes against what her father tells her to do.

One day when Manny and Peaches are having an argument over Peaches sneaking off and going to a place she was told not to when the ground starts shaking and splitting apart right before their eyes. Manny, Diego (Denis Leary) and Sid ( John Leguizamo) are on one side with Ellie and Peaches are on the other side. Manny tried to get back to his family but it was too late. The ground he was on plunged into the ocean. Before drifting away he told Ellie and Peaches to make their way to the land bridge and cross it. They will be safe on the other side. Manny, Diego, and Sid  along with  Sid’s crazy grandmother (voices by the always funny Rhonda Sykes) find themselves a drift at sea where they meet up with some scary sea creatures. The gang comes across a band of misfits led by mean Captain Gut. Captain Gut’s first mate is a female Saber Tooth tiger, Shira (Jennifer Lopez), who doesn’t get along with Diego at all.

Will Manny make it back in time to save his family? Will any of the creatures survive the Continental Drift? To find out you’ll have to pick up a copy of Ice Age: Continental Drift, available on Blu-ray and DVD December 11, 2012. Look for it where ever films are sold.

There is so much to really like about this movie. Sid’s Grandma is so funny and her “pet” will have you screaming with laughter. This film also has Scrat in to and I just love him. Watching him always trying to get his acron keeps us all instiches.

We love all the Ice Age movies. In fact both my kids put this on their Christmas list. I agree with you, the first is my favorite. 🙂

My kids really enjoy movies like Ice Age and they aren’t so childish that it makes it hard for adults to enjoy. We didn’t get to see this one in theaters so I added it to my Blockbuster @ Home queue which is available through DISH and it should be here via mail in just in time for the DVD release. I keep wondering when this series will come to an end and not because it’s bad. It has a lot of sequels for an animated film. My DISH co-worker says that the film is charming and funny which means my kids will eat it up. I think it’s cute how the film focuses more on the teenager in the story and that some of the ideals from the original films are still there. This movie will contribute to a peaceful Saturday afternoon and I can’t wait for it to get here.
