I don’t know if I ever told y’all or not but I have always wanted to go to a murder mystery dinner. You know the ones where the guests are the suspects? Well, I will be doing just that come July thanks to the wonderful folks at Red Herring Games who created Murder at Curst Mansion. Why July? Because my sister in-law told me if I didn’t do it with her she would murder me. Pun intended I guess! 😉
In the mean time I have been working towards getting things together like decorations and costumes while she is working on getting everything arranged. I will tell you that I never knew that costumes for a gal my size could be difficult but I think I came up with the perfect one. You will just have to wait for it.
Everything you need for this game comes inside this great little evidence box. I love how real it looks and I am certain that it will do wonders for the party. I am not sure how it will come into play but I know that it will even if it is nothing more than a prop.
You need 12 people for this party although you can always have more. It is perfectly fine to have people who don’t participate in the mystery itself but who want to be a part of the background. Invitations are provided for you to send out (again there is only 12.)
Inside each invitation you tell the guest who they will be playing for the night.
On the back is their character name as well as a little information about how to dress for that person.
I took each invitation and highlighted the character the person would be playing. Just a little way to make it easier when they read the back.
When all of your guests arrive you will know who is playing whom by having them wear the provided name tags. There are some blank ones in case you need them. Also that “Rita” truck isn’t on there, that is just my watermark! 🙂
There is also a script for each character which you can either give to them or place at their seat at the table. Now I will tell right off we haven’t decided if we are doing a full dinner or some some light finger foods. While this is a dinner party mystery we are adapting it just a bit if we decide to do a smaller amount of food. Plus a traditional dinner party has a whole bunch of courses and I don’t want to cook that much!
Each character’s lines are highlighted so they will know where they are and what to say.
Finally there is the all important solution to the murder. Now the character of the Inspector can be played by a person (which would mean you need 13 people) or you can use the provided DVD to take of that part. We are using an actual person for ours. This envelope is sealed shut and I will NOT be opening it until at the party. The Inspector will be the person who opens it not me. I thought it was important to do it that way so I could get the most out of the event.
The game does come with instructions as well as some ideas for food and such. All in all I know this is going to be an amazing night. Be sure to stay tuned because there is so much more of this to come! I know I said it before but if anyone has any ideas about decorations, food, etc. Please don’t hesitate to let me know.
