Musical Memories

Jun 21, 2012 | Rita

How do you feel about music in your home? In mine we love it, in fact there is always some sort of music playing at any given time. When I clean the house I listen to music, when I am working it is playing the background, when we are in the car, even when I am cooking it is usually playing.  I grew up with music and learned to play the piano when I was ten years old. I had a friend who could play and I began listening to her and then would play what I heard.

I want my children to have a love of music. My father instilled it in me and I will never forget the time he took me to see The Phantom of the Opera. Sitting in the audience listening to the great scores of music  that is such a part of that wonderful opera I fell in love. There have been few times in my life since that moment when I had that same feeling and every time I hear music from The Phantom I close my eyes and can feel myself sitting there next to my dad with my eyes closed letting the music fill my soul.

Music has a power that words alone don’t always have. It can make you laugh, cry, smile, dance, and just lose yourself in it. Learning to appreciate music is taught from a very young age and we have made every effort to start early. One of the great things for our children is that because my husband and I have such different tastes in music they are exposed to many more types of music than an average child.  Ask one of children what they are playing on the piano and you may be told the latest hit from Camila or even Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 13 in C major.

I played the piano when I was younger too, and I always wished I had continued with my lessons. I also like to have music on a lot in my house.

    I can’t imagine a home without music.

I love music as well. There is nothing better. I wish I could play an instrument. I have always wanted to play the violin. I am thinking about putting my oldest in violin lessons, but she is still too young. I am also a fan of Phantom of the Opera. It is amazing.
