My Mexican Kitchen: Tortilla Warmers

Okay…this is something that every Mexican kitchen must have! I learned very early in my marriage that I could get away with a lot but not having a tortilla warmer was an absolute deadly sin. You will find all sorts of uses for them too. I keep bead warm in mine sometimes and even made a pie in it once. I didn’t have a dish high enough on the sides for a chocolate cream pie, pulled out my tortilla warmer, put the pie together and to this day everyone swears that was the best chocolate cream pie they have ever had and ask for my recipe.

If you don’t have a tortilla warm you really should get one and The Latin Products has several that you can choose from. I use these when we go to picnics and dinners because if it gets left I won’t be upset and I can use it to put other foods into in a pinch. However I always bring a tortilla basket to put my tortillas in when I get there because my OCD won’t allow me to have them not looking pretty. I want to showcase what I bring.

If you want to go at high end of the spectra then a Palm Tortilla  Warmer is the way to go.They run $13.99 at The Latin Products and are very pretty. In fact I want one of these and will (hopefully) be getting myself one soon. I plan on leaving it out in the center of the table for decoration when not in use.

I currently use a plastic tortilla warmer myself. In fact it is the one I made the pie in. They sell for $5.99 and the plastic great! It is dishwasher and microwave safe which I love and since I drop things a lot this works well for me. I love the bold red color as well. I usually put a linen napkin inside and wrap the tortillas in it to add a little flair.
