My Peak Challenge Weekend

Mar 18, 2015 | Rita

My Peak Challenge Weekend 1
As you all know last weekend was the My Peak Challenge Weekend and I had the best time ever! There just aren’t words to explain the amount of fun or beauty that the weekend held. This entire trip has been a bit overwhelming for me and has shown me a side of myself that I thought I had lost touch with a long time ago. I have been so focus on so many other aspects of life for so long that I seem to have forgotten all about myself. So I have to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Sam Heughan, Bear Strength, and Fight Camp Glasgow for setting up the challenge and helping me rediscover myself.

If you didn’t already know the whole point of the challenge was to help everyone reach their personal peak and support Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. You couldn’t ask for a better cause, right? There was lots of encouragement via social media, plenty of videos (which I did and can I just say OMG Burpees almost killed me!), groups were formed to take part , and awesome tees went out by the thousands. I might have blackmailed my sister in-law to take part with me. Who by the way said that her personal peak was a walk to the mailbox!

My Peak Challenge Weekend 2
In the end several us went and hiked the mountain without any sort of incident. Coming down and the drive back into civilization was another story. That entailed one of the bumpiest rides ever, a dropped drink, and someone (maybe me..maybe not) shooting drink all out their nose. In our defense we were so far out and up that there were some places I’m pretty sure they film horror movies at! We still had a blast!

My Peak Challenge Weekend 3
There was plenty to see along the way including  couple of small waterfalls. That amazing up close pic was taken by Reese who is 7 y’all and takes better pictures than me! I’m jealous and told him I was going to throw him off the next cliff if he didn’t stop. That pic of the rocks is where my crazy brother got me to climb over the edge once we reached the top (I swear he needs 24/7 supervisor and I need shrink for listening to him) and he told me not to worry that if I fell the first set of rocks would stop me. It was the next fall that would kill me (Gee thanks!!)

My Peak Challenge Weekend 4

Over the course of the challenge I even lost 40 lbs which I am going to continue working on and have managed to give up most of the junk food and other horrible things. Plus I am exercising most days now! To say I am proud of myself (which I have not been able to say for the last 10 years or more) is an understatement. I started out simply doing this as a way to give back a little and support a worthwhile cause. I came away with so much more……a confidence that I never had and a much higher self respect!

Wow what a fun adventure! Always a great thing to get out and see the beauty of the world while giving back. The last time my family went mountain hiking was a few years ago on a trip. Awesome what you took from this! Good job!

Thank you Nicole. This is the first time I have hiked that far up but as I said I enjoyed it and it is something that I will be doing a lot from here on out.
