Christmas fashion has always had its “Do’s” and “Don’ts” and almost always topping the list of style “Don’ts” is the cliché ugly Christmas sweater. Until recently, ugly Christmas sweaters have been the hideous garment that everyone except sweet, old Nana didn’t want to wear. However, in the past few years, this has begun to change. Ugly Christmas sweaters are back and it looks like they’re here to stay.
Instead of just feeling nostalgic about the Christmas sweater Grandma knitted for you but you were too afraid to wear, go get it out of storage and embrace the ugliness! Why? Because National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day allows you to show off your finest Christmas sweater, whether it’s new or old. There’s no reason to hide your ugly Christmas sweater anymore, because on December 12th, you can join thousands of people across the nation in rocking something ugly.
National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day began in 2011 and has since has garnered global recognition. This year, the ugly Christmas sweater connoisseurs behind this project have set a partnership with the Save the Children Foundation, as part of their “Make the World Better with a Sweater” campaign. Here’s how to participate: wear your hideous holiday sweater, donate $5 to Save the Children, and encourage your friends and family to do the same. Long gone are the days of hiding your ugly sweaters, it’s time to wash off the dust and proudly wear it all holiday season (or maybe just December 12th).
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

That is such a fun way to give back. We usually do an Ugly Sweater Day at work. I will have to see if I can get them to do a tie in with this. It’s such an easy donation to a great cause!

I don’t own an ugly Christmas sweater, but I always love seeing what other people wear each year. This is a great idea and reason to drag those ugly sweaters out.

I don’t have an ugly Christmas sweater, but my mom does. My favorite is her sweater with jingle bells and glitter. It’s a classic and we all love it! Only mom!
