Rss & NewslEtter Explained
I thought I would update this post for 2019 and make sure it had all the current information inside for you. This post is a great way to understand the difference between the newsletter and my rss feed.
Are you confused about whether you are getting the newsletter? Maybe you are looking for those Extra Entry Codes but can’t find it. Let me walk you through both so you not only know what they are but which one you want to subscribe to. The very simple difference between the two is that one is sent everyday with a listing of posts for that day. While the other is sent on specific days and actually contains more information for you.
RSS FEED
The Rss feed comes daily to your email box. It is pretty simple and has only a listing of the daily posts. The top portion of that email will look like the image above. You can also see that it reminds you there are NO extra entries in these. It is a great way to see what I post each day and what you want to read.
NEWSLETTER
The newsletter comes to you every Saturday (fingers cross that I remember to get it done.) The first thing you will notice (image shown above) is that the top of the newsletter looks different than the top of the Rss feed. The image is a different one and there is a paragraph I write each time it comes out. It contains different information and a little about what’s going on in my life as well as information about things on the blog. It is much longer than the rss feed.
Just past that is the Extra Entries Section. There is a code in the purple box along with an expiration date. That is the code that you enter into the Rafflecopter. You don’t put it in the comments section. You place it here:
In my Monthly Forecast post on the first of each month I let you know the dates of when the newsletter will come out that month. However, another thing to watch for is the Newsletter Today post on the blog and social media. I post one each time a newsletter comes out and it includes what to do if you don’t receive the newsletter.
DIDN’T GET YOUR NEWSLETTER?
If Monday comes and goes and you don’t receive your newsletter… DON’T PANIC! I sometimes don’t get them out until Monday. Mostly because I tend to forget and well, it happens. If by Wednesday you haven’t received one then please contact me using the form on my CONTACT PAGE. On there you can tell me more about your email and I will get right to work searching for your newsletter. It is important that you provide me with the email that you used to sign up with.
HOUSEKEEPING
You need to be aware that I do housekeeping on the newsletter list every three months. I am able to see who receives the newsletter, if it bounces from your email, if you open it, and more. Every three months I will email those who haven’t opened the newsletter once in that time period to ask if they wish to stay on the list. If they don’t respond or tell they do not want to remain I remove them from the list. I hate sending emails to those who don’t want to receive it.

I don’t see your daily email RSS option on your website, am I missing it somewhere. I know I’m a subscriber of yours.

I know this is an older comment but I am working on fixing the rss button and link.

I thought I knew mostly the differences in these but thought I would read anyway just to verify that I did or didn’t. One of my emails I locked myself out of while I was setting up two passcodes that hotmail just kept on telling me I needed to do then I could not read their captcha to get back in. I asked two other people to read it as well and they couldn’t read it as well. That is crazy to keep it G to PG. Anyway I haven’t even tried to get back in since then and am doing some cleaning up on my other email. So I’m sure you prob removed me from your list on my other email. And the last giveaway I screwed up the codes so badly I just stopped entering. It was all me. Thanks for explaining these.
