No, You Don’t Have The Break The Bank For Team-Building

Feb 01, 2022 | Rita

Team-building strategies are a fundamental element of business success. Ensuring your employees create a trust relationship will help collaboration and workplace culture.

Unfortunately, team-building events can come at a high cost. On average, a company can expect to spend up to $8,000 for only half a day with 20 team members. When working with a limited budget, it can be tricky to plan team bonding strategies.

Yet, you can’t afford to ignore the role of team-building activities. They are essential to building a people-focused business with a happy, engaged, and productive team. So, what are the best cost-effective options to make team-building affordable, effective, and enjoyable for all? One thing that you can consider is virtual trivia team building.

#1. Create business sports teams

Sports activities can bring people together, especially team sports. You can establish a basketball team or a small cornhole game team, so people get to meet once a week for practice. Doing physical activities together can help your team relax and create close bonds between each other. If you wish to make it look more business-friendly, you can find plenty of personalized branded items, such as custom cornhole bags from Cornhole Worldwide or basketball jersey tops with team members’ names.

#2. Involve everyone in a charity event

Is the local school on the verge of shutting down? Is everyone’s favorite local bookshop going bankrupt? Charity events do not need to seek great causes far away. Your employees can probably suggest a handful of local issues that keep them awake at night. Why not organize a money-raising event? There are plenty of online donation pages that are easy to set up. Your team could create such a page to support a local institution. Finding the best charity activities can be tricky, but typically most people are happy to pay for an entertaining show, whether your team decides to join a race or stream an entire video game.

#3. Plan a social event during lunchtime

Social events are not reserved for the evening. You can set up a social community event during the lunch hour. It can be a good idea to provide a buffet with food and soft drinks. Simple and silly games are an excellent conversation starter, such as playing darts or musical chairs in the office. They also encourage everyone to join in and laugh, instantly elevating the mood. You can set up a little prize for the winner(s), such as a sweet treat or a fun stationery set. Contrary to common belief, team-building events do not need to be serious or long. Sharing a fun moment during the day is enough to build trust.

#4. Have a creative project together

Being creative with no business expectations can help people come out of their shells. For instance, you could encourage your team to paint a fresco in the reception area. The combination of colors, stencils for simple shapes, and the diversity of patterns and designs can showcase the business culture to visitors.

Alternatively, you can take inspiration from one of Netflix’s most successful feel-good dramas, The Hospital Playlist. The South Korean drama follows doctors inside a hospital environment, and each episode shows them getting together to learn and play a song. An improvised music workshop could help your business.

Team-building activities do not need to cost the earth. In fact, with a little creativity, you can help your team bond with meaningful and cost-effective activities.
