Eating well has not been an easy thing over the last few years. When I heard about Nutrition For Longevity Ready Made Meals I thought they sounded so interesting. I knew I wanted to know more about them and they came into my life when I needed them yet didn’t know I did.
Each of the meal kit plans are designed to adhere to the Longevity Diet which is more of a lifestyle than diet. You select the plan that is right for you and then they arrive farm fresh to your door. You can select between a 3 day or 5 day plan. You also select between pescatarian and vegan. I selected pescatarian between they allow fish and other seafood.
Just as I received these meals my youngest, Sam, went into the hospital. I didn’t know I would need a way to eat healthy while being so stressed out. These helped me so much with that.
3 Days of Breakfasts
Before leaving for the hospital each morning I was able to have some good to eat and be ready for whatever the day held for me. I got up before everyone to head out so being able to pop this is the microwave and then eat was something I needed.
Loma Linda Oatmeal with Mixed Berries and Almonds
I love me some oatmeal. I grew up eating oatmeal so this was easy to eat. It gave so much comfort and on a cold morning it kept me full til lunch. Oatmeal is one of those stick to your ribs foods as my mother calls it.
Nicoyan Enchilada with N4L Enchilada Sauce
Okay, I admit that I am not a big enchilada fan so I almost skipped this one. Knowing I needed to eat or my diabetes would act up I pretty much inhaled this. I swear I swallowed that thing whole. Don’t ask me why I don’t like enchiladas, just accept that I don’t. If you enjoy them, you will love this.
Banana Walnut Oat Bar with Apple Compote
Banana, walnut, oats now we’re talking my language! This bar was so great! I had never had a compote before but I enjoyed this one as well. I actually torn my bar into smaller pieces and mixed it with compote to eat.
3 Days of Lunches
You get three lunches with the plan. I got three salads which was perfect because I could slip them into my cold lunch bag and take it with me to the hospital. It mean not having to leave the room or having to sit at cafeteria tables alone feeling lost. I could spend the time in the room with my baby and eat when he eats.
Okinawa Cold Somen Noodle Salad with N4L Tangy Miso Dressing
I forgot to snap my picture of this one before I packed it to eat. Of course I was almost finished with it before I realized that as well. It was good. I hadn’t had miso before this and was surprised by it.
Nicoyan Forbidden Black Rice Bowl with N4L Ginger Tamari Dressing
I hate ginger! I mean with a passion so I figured I would hate this salad. Still I needed to eat and didn’t want to make my way to the cafeteria. I liked it okay. I wouldn’t say this was my favorite but it was good.
Loma Linda Quinoa Cranberry Salad with N4L Cranberry Dressing
I was nervous about the cranberry dressing. I love cranberries and juice when mixed with another flavor. I was surprised though that this was a good salad. I was full after eating it and not left feeling as though I needed something else.
3 Days of Dinners
The three dinners were perfect for me because I was getting home way after everyone else had eaten. I could stop and pick something up but I was such a mess every night that I didn’t want to do that. With these three meals I was able to come home and eat without giving it much thought.
Okinawa Teriyaki Glazed Vegetables with Haddock
This was more than good! I’m a take it or leave when it comes to teriyaki but I enjoyed this one very much. The vegetables were just right. The broccoli wasn’t to hard nor too soft. Y’all know how hard it can be to get broccoli just the way you want it when you bite into it. If you leave it in too long you end up with mush. Take it out too soon as you might well have eaten it raw.
Nicoyan Paella with Shrimp
I LOVE Paella so this was one of my favorites! I wished I had two plates of this. It is a comfort food for me so it was something I needed and enjoyed. If you have never had paella you don’t know what you’re missing.
Calabrian Salmon with Quinoa and Oven Roasted Root Vegetables
This dinner was okay but I think I should have taken the salmon out and eaten just quinoa and vegetables. I don’t know maybe it was just how late it was the day I ate this but I wasn’t in the mood for fish and ended up just shoving most of it to the side. Everything else though was amazing.
Extras
There were some extra items that work with with all of the meals. It gives snacks and a great boost for your smoothie. Not to mention some olive oil that looks so classy.
Chocolate Chip Energy Bites
These are something that the senior citizens in our house loved. They were gone after I got home that first night. Ma said her and my uncle enjoyed them so much. she wants to make sure I order them some more of them.
Premium Extra Virgin Centenarian Olive Oil
I haven’t had a chance to use the extra virgin olive oil yet as we have been eating crock pot meals. They are easier but I am certainly planning on using this on Christmas day for our little dinner and then again when we are all together.
Berry Beautiful Beauty Boost
The Beauty Boost is another item I haven’t had a chance to enjoy but there is a recipe over on the N4L website that I will be trying out next week. It looks so good and I want to see if it as amazing as I think it will be.
Snack Blend
This snack blend has bananas, pecans, and dark chocolate chips in it. This was perfect to carry in my bag and have something to snack on while sitting with Sam each day. I wasn’t stuck eating out of vending machines which helped me so much.
I must say I am so grateful for Nutrition For Longevity Ready Made Meals. They came just when I needed them the most and this is a plan I can certainly get behind.
