Open Plan: Creating Space In Your Home

A lot of people work very hard to create a home which feels wide and open. With urban properties getting smaller and smaller, space is becoming an important factor when you’re thinking about your place. Of course, when you are limited to a small area, there isn’t much you can do to make it bigger. This doesn’t mean that you can’t make it look bigger, though. To help you through this process, this post will be exploring some of the best ways to make your rooms feel bigger, starting with a combination which has become a staple in modern homes.

 Kitchen/Living Room

Over the last couple of decades, there has been a shift in the way that a lot of people eat their food and enjoy their time together. Both the kitchen and the lounge in your home are typically considered to be social areas. Given that they are both usually on the same floor of the home, and will often have a dividing wall, joining these spaces can be a great way to start your search for space. You will only be able to remove a wall if it isn’t a load bearing one, and it is worth getting a professional to help you with this sort of job.

Once you have gotten rid of a wall or two, you will be ready to start thinking about the way that your joint kitchen and living room will be furnished. Of course, as they will be connected, both rooms will have to adopt a similar style to avoid looking strange or out of place. As a big part of this, a lot of people will choose a kitchen island to act as a replacement for their wall. Adding a small amount of division to the room, without making it feel packed, this sort of option is great for most open plan downstairs areas.

The Bed Rooms

Along with the shared rooms in your home, a lot of people will also want to think about their bed rooms when they are working on their open plan spaces. Of course, you will be limited with this sort of space, as you will have to deal with a bed. To make this piece feel like it is smaller, opting for a low bed can be a great start. Along with this, using low furniture of other varieties can also make a room feel much bigger. This sort of a approach is a great one, but there are a couple of other methods you can use to help you, too.

Storage is going to be the best tool you have when it comes to making a bedroom feel big. If you have things like clothing strewn across the room, it will be very hard to make it feel tidy, in turn shrinking the perceived space in it. To avoid this, clever use of wardrobes and chests of drawers will be a great place to start. Along with this, though, a lot of people find that underbed storage is also  a great option, especially when you’re able to hide it and keep it out of the way.

The Bathrooms

Not a lot of people will think about bathrooms when they picture an open plan home. Instead, this room is often left forgotten, and people will simply live with one which is cluttered. A large part of your home will be take up by this room, making it very important, while also improving most people’s chances to enjoy their work. To make the most of this, it will be worth looking around the web to see what other people are doing with this room. Options like those found on sites like https://www.kardiel.com/Modern-tubs/modern-freestanding-bathtubs are perfect for this, offering a modern take on something very old. Alternatively, though, you could think purely about the uses of your bathroom, and install a shower to perform a similar job without any of the wasted space.

Tips And Tricks

There are loads of different tips and tricks out there which can help you to make your home feel bigger. A lot of people will already be using some of them, and you may not realize quite how much your space is being impacted by the things in it. Below, you can find some examples of the common tricks which can be used to make a room feel bigger than it usually is. Along with this, though, you could also consider using websites like Instagram to give yourself some inspiration.

One of the key differences between most small and large spaces is the amount of light which they can hold. Larger rooms will often be much lighter than smaller ones, and this gives you something to use when you’re starting out. Opening curtains and blinds is a great way to start, but a lot of people will also want to look into other ways to make their room brighter. This is where some paint comes in. With the right shades, you can make a room feel massive, and this can often be achieved over a couple of days.

A lot of people make the mistake of buying to much furniture when they’re working on a renovation. It can be easy to think you have more space than you do, or that the options your buying will be smaller than they actually are. Either way, it’s usually a good idea to look for pieces which give you as much usable space as possible. Websites like https://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/functional/10364/ are perfect for this, as they will stock loads of popular options. There are loads of interesting and modern ways to store things like clothing, and most people already have all of the tools they need to get started.

Hopefully, this post will leave you feeling inspired to start working on the way that your home feels. There are loads of ways to make a home feel more open, and most of them are already within your reach. Of course, though, you need to think about the other features you will want, too.

Why is it that men have man caves – what do us woman have? I got my own cave, my computer, a TV , a recliner and my cell phone, that’s all I need in my cave. Turn any little area into YOURS.
