After watching the series and loving it I thought I would read the books to see how different they were.I have read mixed reviews about the book but I must say that I really loved Outlander. The storyline itself is intriguing enough to have kept me reading. I wanted to know if Claire was going to fall in love with Jamie or go back to through the stones to Frank. The relationship between Claire and Jamie is beyond the standard damsel in distress and everyday hero. They are well written and full of depth.
Claire is anything but the damsel in distress. She is strong, stubborn, and willful. However so is Jamie and at times their tempers get the better of them. There are a few scenes that can be difficult at times. The spanking scene was a bit hard to bear for me but since the aim is to be historically correct, I can see that happening during that time period. As hard as that was the Wentworth Prison part was worst. As Jamie tells what happened to him I almost wanted to cry.
While the relationship between Claire and Jamie is the center of the book there are so many other great characters. Rupert is constantly a source of humor! Even in the most serious situation he can make you laugh. Jack Randall, the bad guy, is truly evil and not in your standard sense. He has an evil that runs deep, more like he was born this evil and not made evil by time or circumstance. I have started the next book in the series and can’t wait to see what happens to all of these wonderful characters.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

My husband has the series on our DVR and loves it. He read the book and keeps telling me if I read the book I would understand more and enjoy the series a lot more. After reading your review it makes me want to pick up the book to read. Great review!

Tammy,
You should read the book! Your husband is correct you get a better sense of the characters from the books. Not that the actors do not do a great job. They did a fabulous casting job! I will admit though after reading the book there are some characters that I HATE! Even watching because I know what is going to happen I just hate them. It is so grea!!

You are going to love it Holly! In fact I will be posting my review of book 2 in the series soon. I fell in love with the entire series and have read all 8 major books in the series and the graphic novel. I am starting on the Lord John series now who is a character in the Outlander series and you will recognize other characters in there as well.
