Moving house is one of the most amazing steps you can take in your life as well as a stressful one. Deciding to up and move your life elsewhere can always be exciting, and whether it is your first or your fifth time moving, packing is a challenge and can take some time.
Today we want to take a look at how you can pack your items for moving day more easily. Packing up to move house can be arduous, but with our simple packing tips you can get the job done with less fuss and get to your new home easier this year.
Label everything
One of the best ways of making your move easy is to label every single box as you go. If you have a large family, you likely have accumulated a lot of items during your lifetime. This means when packing there will be countless boxes to sort through and if you are not organized, this can quickly turn to chaos. Make sure to label your boxes with their contents for example ‘pots, pans, and cutlery’ or ‘DVDs and books’. This will make your life much easier and will allow you to organize your packing as you go.
Use coloured stickers for each room
As well as packing and labelling your boxes, it is a great idea to buy some small coloured stickers and use these to label boxes for each room of the house. For example you might have a red label for the living room, green for the kitchen, and yellow for the bedroom. This will allow you to place boxes in the correct room as soon as you move into the new house and it will save you a lot of time and effort later.
Keep old newspapers to pack boxes
In the weeks and months leading up to moving house, it is so important to keep any old newspapers and not throw them away. Newspaper offers a brilliant packing material for delicate items such as your glasses and vases, and will keep everything in place and in transit. This can be such a lifesaver and will prevent you losing anything during the trip to the new home.
Arrange van hire
A van hire will be such an important part of your moving day, and even a 3 hour window will give you the opportunity to move most of your things over to the new house. Make sure to also plan out where you will go and what items you will transport during the trip because this will make your life a ton easier than it was.
Get family involved
Family will always be willing to help you if you need it, and you should take advantage of having family there when you move house. Family will be able to help you organise your moving efforts and you can bring some with you to pack things from your own home, while some people wait at your new home and clean/arrange items as they come through the door.
