I am certain that you all have heard of Pine Mountain Log before. If you haven’ they are those easy to light logs that you see at most grocery stores and other retailers. Before I go into more about them I just want to say that I live in Pine Mountain, not the where the logs are made but I thought it cool. At least it sounds cool right?
Anyway, Pine Mountain Logs are actually made by Pine Mountain Fire and they began in 1980 when they created their first Firestarter products. They not only created an easy way to start a fire using all-natural American hardwood sawdust, but found a way to utilize a previously unused resource. Since then they have been creating all sorts of products to make starting a fire easier. One of their products that I read about but want to try this year is their YuleLogg which is an old world holiday tradition. I will let you all know if I end up trying one (and the store I buy it at) if I do decide to one this year.
I received the Java-Log Firelog to try out and when I first received it I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to enjoy it. I thought we would have to burn it just to burn it since it was still pretty warm. Then Mother Nature decided to bring on the cold in the most frigid sort of a way and well, we got to enjoy it. This puppy has a four hour burn time and is made from…..wait for it…..coffee grounds! You read that correctly, coffee grounds! I had never heard of such a thing in my life.
I gave up coffee a year or so ago but love this smell of it and this helped me have that. This smelled like I had stepped into a coffeehouse without having to spend the five dollars on a cup of coffee. I’m nit judging those who do, in fact I’m a little jealous now. We put it into our little fire pit that we have (shown above) although we do have a fireplace in the house. I wanted to see how well it did outside because I felt that this would be perfect for when we go camping. I’m a little unsure about the coffee scent while camping but the fact that this burns easily and clean ( it emits up to 78% less carbon monoxide and up to 66% less creosote than cordwood fires) for four hours is a plus. It would be perfect for breakfast in the morning. Yeah, we go all out off the grid when we camp. It sucks! 😉 Plus it’s awesome at the same time.
All in all this was a great log and one that I know I will happily buy again. While I had heard of Pine Mountain Fire and their products in the past I had never used one before. I am glad that I did and I can promise you there will be more on this brand and their products in the future. I will certainly be giving them a test run when we hit the trails this year and start camping.

I love these logs but I never knew they started out as American hardwood sawdust. I was always wondered what they were made of. This Java log is genius and Pine Mountain Logs are recycling again. What a smart company! From what you’ve said in your review I would definitely have to have a cup of coffee in my hands while burning this fire log, inside or out! I’ll be looking for this fire log to purchase!
