A few weeks ago I caught what I thought was the flu. Not a problem I was letting it run its course, taking meds, and staying away from everyone. Then I felt like I had been run over. Repeatedly ran over, like they had hit and put it in reverse to do it again and again. That morning was the morning I realized that maybe I needed a little extra help.
A trip to the ER resulted in being admitted because of pneumonia. WHAT? So, no worries I could keep working while in the hospital. That is why they have laptops and wifi, right? WRONG!! After a few days of not getting any better and attempting to reach my deadlines the doctor took my laptop away from me as well as my phone. He had my family take them home and not give them back until he released me. This morning none the less.
That, of course, has left me running behind like a crazy woman. We celebrated Christmas this morning when I got home and now I am attempting to get caught up on the little bit of work that I am behind in. I will be caught up before the end of the week though. The reason is I have planned everything out including naps. The doctor said I would still be a bit tired and to rest when I needed to.
My doctor was awesome although I wanted to punch him when he took my stuff away. the truth was that without it I was able to rest more and stress less which allowed by body to heal faster. I didn’t realize just how serious pneumonia could be. I didn’t realize I had it. I thought I had the flu. Flu season is here and if you have symptoms make sure that you go and see you doctor. It could be more than the flu.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
Audrey Stewart says
Oh My! I am so glad to hear you better. Follow the doctor’s orders.
Rita says
I am doing my best to stay in the bed as much as possible. I still have that annoying cough and the doctor said it can linger for a while.
Laurajj says
Oh how scary. So glad you are feeling better and able to go home. Take it easy for a few days!
Rita says
I’m trying to. It is not easy though.
Adriane says
Oh my! I’ve been down with a bad cold for 5 days now. It’s shocking how quickly it can go to pnuemonia. Hope you’re feeling much better!
Rita says
I am beginning to feel better, thank you. Make sure you take care of yourself because the pneumonia hit me from out of nowhere.
Anne says
Poor Rita! What a frightening thing to go through, at the holidays no less. Take care of yourself and get better soon.
Rita says
Thank you, I will.
Zoey says
Oh no! Pneumonia is no joke! Glad that you are feeling better now!
Rita says
Thank you Zoey.

Glad you are feeling better but remember –you have to step back and chill here and there. Overdoing knocks us out which puts us even further behind. Give yourself time to heal as pneumonia truly takes 3-6 months for our bodies to totally recoupe from.
Rita says
Thank you for the reminder Elizabeth. I can tell you that I get tired much more easily nowadays but I know that I will be back in action.
Dana Rodriguez says
I am glad you are feeling better! Take it easy for awhile!
Rita says
Thank you so much Dana.

I’m sorry you went through having pneumonia, especially during the holidays. I’ve had pneumonia before, and I’ve never felt anything like it. I hope you and your family are doing well. And, may the new year bring with it good health and happiness for you and your family.
Rita says
Thank you so much Tammy.

I had walking pneumonia before, and it was not fun. I am fighting something right now…it has me feeling miserable lately.
Rita says
You’re right it is not fun. I hope that you are starting to feel better.
Christy Peeples DuBois says
Bless you. I am so glad you are home now but am so sorry to hear about you being sick. I take a flu shot every year and have for years. But I have not had a pneumonia shot. I am not sure why some are recommended to have it and others not so.
Anyway, isn’t it amazing how the quality of your rest is so much greater without electronics.
Again, glad you are home and better. Though I’m sure you still need that rest.
Rita says
I don’t know why it is recommended to some and not others. My uncle’s cardiologist never wants him to get the flu shot. He said it has to do with some of the medications he is and the way it will interfere with them. Although I heard that said this year a lot of the vaccines aren’t working as well since one of the strains mutated. It is amazing the rest you can get when the devices were gone but at the time I felt like I was missing out on the world.
Christy Peeples DuBois says
Also, when you have a chance will you tell me where I can find the date on each of your post. Thanks for your time. I’m sure I’m just blind as a bat and am overlooking it.
Rita says
You’re not overlooking it. I actually just noticed that the date is not there. I will figure out what happened to it and get it to show back up.

My daughter had bacterial pneumonia a few years ago and it hit her hard. Finally after antibiotics she felt better. Scary experience to go through though!
Rita says
Yes it is scary. The antibiotics help. Although for me its the dang cough that may do me in. My poor chest hurts so much from coughing. My brother asked if I was sure I didn’t have whooping cough cause it sounded so bad. I told him I didn’t but it came out in the middle of a cough which made it sound worse.
Natalie says
I am glad to hear you are feeling better! Pnuemonia is no fun and can be serious.
Rita says
Thank you Natalie. It is awful.
Amber Ludwig says
Oh my!! Im so glad you ended up going in though!! Pneumonia has been going around year and it is nasty!! Hope you are feeling better!!
Alice F. says
So happy you are home and on the mend! Pneumonia is no joke and I am glad you gave your body a rest. Here’s to good health in 2018!
Mary Beth Elderton says
OMG! I have been out of the loop a bit and had no idea! I’m so glad you are better. Hubz and I both had flu that led to pneumonia last year. It Is Miserable. Happy New Year—and give yourself time to get your energy back up.
Becky Kinard says
Ouch! I would not be happy to lose my laptop and phone for a few days. Pneumonia can really be very serious. Glad you are better now.
Laurence Price says
This is a rally good article. I hate getting sick. I just had the flu and I felt very bad until I got better.
Kris Merriman says
Hope I never get this
Rust says
Hm ….I’ve been wondering if maybe what this thing I’ve had for a while that won’t go away could be pneumonia. Your post caught my eye. It’s not as bad as what you described but I don’t think it’s the flu. May be time for me to see a doc too.
AD says
I hope you are feeling better! I went through something similar this past Christmas; I have walking pneumonia according to the doctor.
