Learning how to control your portion is what a successful diet is all about. The problem is that knowing that and actually doing it is two different things. It is so easy to fill your plate with food that you don’t need. That is where Precise Portions comes in. They have created a unique system to help you control your portions without really thinking too much about it.
From Precise Portions Website:
Ed and Ann Marie Stephens created Precise Portions after both sides of their family was stricken with Type 2 diabetes. They spent years compiling information, to help manage their families weight and blood sugar levels. In 2007, they decided to share what they had learned through TypeFreeDiabetes.com. In 2010, they noticed that all their medical research and all their patients’ clinical results seemed to share one common element: a proper nutrition plan. Dietitians and nutritionists advised them that portion control dinnerware would help their families reach their goals. They now proudly produce an entire lineup of dinnerware – a complete portion control system with support documentation that’s attractively styled and dietician designed to help you reach your goals – on your terms.
I received the FOCUS Portion Control Place Setting. It is a porcelain set that is one of the top quality dishes I have seen in a while. Don’t think this is cheap porcelain. The set includes
- 1 FOCUS plate
- 1 cereal/fruit bowl
- 1 drinking glass
- 5 daily menu planning guides (placements)
- 1 coaster
- 1 Quick Start Guide to Eating Healthy (16 page booklet)
- FREE GIFT: 1 4oz portion control ladle
I began using the system right away by setting up the next five days of menus. It is really easy, as everything you need is on the back of the placemats. It is all laid out in easy to understand terms. I was worried the first time I put food on my plate because I was afraid I would not get enough food. However by using the lines and putting the right amount of food where it goes on my plate I was full and satisfied. The line is actually a very stylish vine. The glass has the same vine on it and you can use it for your veggie juice, milk , or water. However I have been using mine to gradually cut down on my soda habit. Each day I add a little less with the hopes of kicking the habit, if at all possible. The ladle really comes in handy because it allows you to serve yourself the correct portion. While the FOCUS set has the words of what food group goes onto the plate, bowl, etc the LIFE-style set does not. It is designed to be more stylish and look more like a regular plate. If you are just starting out I would recommend the FOCUS set though.
Have I lost any weight? No not yet , however I didn’t go into to this thinking I would suddenly drop pounds. That is NOT the purpose behind Precise Portions. the purpose is to teach you to eat correctly which will help you lose weight over time and keep it off. That is my plan so I will keep you all updated as I go. I currently weigh 215lbs. I will update you on my weight over the next few months and let you know how Precise Portions worked over the holidays (as those will be the true tests) and then in a year I will tell you all how it worked, if I lost weight, how much and has it stayed off.
PROS of Precise Portions:
- Easy to follow system. You are not doomed to fail from the beginning.
- Allows for sugars and sweets! Even Alcohol!!! This system allows for those foods that you love by allowing you to subtract certain servings to accommodate the food you want to eat.
- Plenty of tools and helps. The website is full of extra information such as Daily Eating Plans to help you.
- You can buy full 4-piece place setting so your whole family will benefit.
CONS of Precise Portions:
- I honestly haven’t found any as of yet.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I like the Portion Control plates. I never know if I have enough vegetables on my plate, so these would be perfect.

Portion Control Guide and Menu Planning Placemats are my favorite items in there. So many times I struggle to find healthy sides to prepare with our meals and I either just pick something quick like mac-n-cheese or mashed potatoes. I stopped buying quick and crappy sides and I've been adding more fresh fruits and veggies to each meal so these would be neat to see more options.

What a great idea!! I liked the FOCUS Portion Control Place Setting. I also liked the placemats. I ordered their free e-book – looks like great information. I weigh 15+ lbs more than you do and am trying to get healthy again. These plates look like they could definitely help. Good luck with your weight loss too 🙂 ps – the link that is associated with the first instruction didn't link to Precise Portions – it sends you back to your page – thought you'd want to know.
