It is that time of the year again when bugs come out in full force. It can make you want to scream. Trust me I know! We live in the woods so we get all sorts of creepy, crawling, flying things. Right now we are in the middle of a major remodel because my bathroom wall cracked and it seems like everyday a new problem is discovered. That means I am spending a lot of time outside, sweating. I swear it seems like the more yo sweat the more bugs there are.
No Crumbs or Residue
I am taking a little extra time to prep for summer bugs so I don’t have to worry down the road. First thing is all food that gets opened has to go into a container that seals if you aren’t eating it. That will prevent most ants as there will be nothing out for them to eat. Also, Ma leaves her spoon on the counter when she makes her coffee.
I was that and the counter down well every single morning. I do that to get the sugar residue off because that sweetness can attract crazy and ghost ants. I’m not making up those names either. They are actually to types of ants.
No Standing Water
With the construction going on we have ended up with a hole in the front yard. One that collected water the other night when it rained. I’m not even going to tell you the number misquotes that brought out. I told the crew the next morning that had to filled it right away. I couldn’t take being eaten alive. On to of not knowing everything I am allergic to right now. I got stung by something yesterday when I went out into the yard. It hurt like the dickens but luckily I was okay. I’ve got my epi-pen ready just in case though.
We also keep the air conditioning on in the house. It helps keep the humidity down which a lot of bugs don’t like. I live in the southeast and we get a pretty large variety of bugs so I have to be ready to deal with any of them at any given moment. Call Drake Lawn & Pest Control in Orlando if you’re bothered or frightened by unfamiliar noises in the attic.
Common Sense
Most of you know that you have to keep all of the undergrowth around your home under control as well as fill in any holes. Now is the time to take a walk around the outside of your house and look for them. Trust me! We thought we had a simple foundation problem and now we have to replace two door ways, a wall, and all of the siding. There was a little bit of damage under the roof (which is being replaced as well) from some termites. I had to call in a company for that but the rest of the house looks okay. No damage and no sign of the termites.
That is why I say to look now and get yourself prepped and ready. It is only going to get hotter and the hotter it gets the more bugs come out. Not just bugs either, all sorts of other pests will find ways to make your life miserable. One final tip for those of you that have pets. Don’t leave a bowl full of food out. Give them just enough to eat then take the bowl up and clean it. You can leave the water if they are inside. Outside you run the risk of misquotes. That bowl of food is like an open buffet for ants.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

Heat, humidity and bugs! Why I like living in Colorado since we don’t have much of any of that. Very good tips.

Ugh when we go camping as soon as we get out of the car we have to douse ourselves in bug spray, the mosquitos are everywhere! And at dinner time there are a lot of wasps that come around. We use a dining tent to have our meals bug-free!
