We went to the Pumpkins at Callaway Gardens last week and let me tell you it was so much fun. It was an outing we did to first get out of the house and to help me get my head in a better place. Things have been so messed up with me trying to straighten out work stuff that I have been super stressed. This was a few hours away to not worry myself to death that I am never going to climb out of this hole.
If you haven’t been I highly recommend that you do go. It starts at 4pm and ends at like 10 (I think). We got there about 5:20 pm because I wanted to do the corn maze during the daylight. Let me say that you can do it at night because they have it all lit up.
Pumpkins and More
So we headed first to Cason’s Corn Maze. There is a lot going on over there so make sure that you plan enough time. There are actually several things that we didn’t do simply because we were a bit tired from the maze. I would suggest that you go through the maze and then sit at one of the tables to rest a bit. Maybe check out some of the other things going on there first. There is a place to buy drinks, popcorn, snacks, and shaved ice.
There are also plenty of places to take pictures. As you can see the senior citizens got into the swing of things.
Coming up into the maze area you will find a sunflower garden.
As well as a pumpkin patch. I’m not sure if they grew the pumpkins or not. This area is the vegetable garden during other times of the year so they may have grown them.
Which includes a giant pumpkin. I will say that you can’t get near the giant pumpkins. They don’t want people walking all over the patch.
The corn maze has a map for you to study.
They also give you a paper so that you can play the games and it has a small version of the map. I couldn’t do that and keep up with the seniors. They were on a mission to get out of that maze. My niece gave up halfway through.
This huge pumpkin tee comes to life at night. I did a video but there were so many people that you really can’t hear the pumpkins. They sing and tell jokes, it is so much fun.
Food and Snacks
Next up was the food. Let me say a few things about this. First there is a food pavilion at the beach area. Food can be pricey and the lines are a bit long. We didn’t eat first which was my mistake. We should have eaten and then just got snacks if we wanted them. I stood in line for about twenty minutes for two sodas with ice. I wanted ice because it was hot and I wanted something cold. It was not cold in any possible way. They put the drink in then the ice which meant there was very little ice.
As I said there is food at the pavilion but we decided to eat at the food trucks. Which is how I ended up spending $100 on food. First up were $15 corndogs and fries. The fries were good and my uncle enjoyed his corndog. The rest of us weren’t that impressed. I should have gotten a burger or pizza from the pavilion.
I got the 3 empanadas for $13 and let me tell you they were so good. You can get any flavor and I got the original beef, corn, ham and cheese. The original beef was a bit spicy for me but the other two were to die for. That sweet corn one was so good. This is certainly something that I will be getting again.
You can’t go to a food truck and not get funnel cake. I mean come on! It is a must. We got one and shared it between us. As always it was very good. Ma loved it and it was a great treat. Of course this is just some of the food the trucks offer. There is also an ice cream truck and a kennel corn stand.
My niece turned 21 this year and saw the adult beverage stand and just had to have one. I saw a sign that said a cup of beer was $5 but she wanted this mixed drink. It was $9 and the poor child drank one sip. Who I am to tell her that she wouldn’t like it. She wanted to feel more like an adult. I’m not sure I would have started with mango vodka but okay.
Once It Gets Dark
When the sun goes down there is still plenty to do. We headed to the Enchanted Forest for a walk. There we found all sorts of pumpkins lit up in such a wonderful way.
The owl section of the forest was awesome! There are all of these flying owls. It was too hot but I bet tonight with the wind blowing a little the would be flying a bit more.
The giant owl was a sight to behold. I mean this is made out of pumpkins people!
The glow in the dark pumpkins were my favorite. They were so beautiful and I loved them. As you can see there are lady bugs and more scattered in there as well.
There were some items that weren’t pumpkins and they moved as well. I loved the praying mantis. I mean how gorgeous is this?
So Much More
This was just a small sampling of the things to do and see. There is glow in the dark mini golf, a dance party, pie eating contest, and so much more. It is only through the end of October because then they switch to Fantasy in Lights for the holidays. We had a great time and will most likely go back next year.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
