How do ensure that your children are authentically bicultural? Truth be told it is not an easy task at all. We have found that having each parent teach their culture helps. The same as teaching them to speak two languages.
The problem is that the world and culture they live in and see 90% of the time is going to be the predominate one. There is no perfect answer or method. All you can really do is bring the best of both cultures into the home.
We do that through holidays and festivals that are celebrated within each culture such as Dia de la Murtes and the Fourth of July. Showing our children that each culture has something wonderful helps them love and appreciate it more. That is very important to us.
In the end all that we can hope is that we have done our best and that our children realize that.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I think you hit the nail on the head! We as parents always try to do our best with it’s teaching our kids about our culture or anything else. I am sure it is hard to make sure you try to bring in both cultures for holiday’s and events. Also some people would just give up and teach their culture. Good job Rita! You are an amazing mother. Your kids may not always appreciate everything you do for them now, but in the future they will really understand.

How wonderful to have different cultures, holding on and teaching them is so important, he need to know so they can identify who they are.

I think exposing kids to the foods from the different cultures is another good way.

I think it is wonderful to expose your children to other cultures. Both of my children are bi-racial.
