How many of you ladies still carry a purse (or handbag?) I’m asking because I have noticed more and more that younger women aren’t carrying them. I grew up in a time when you became a particular age you began to carry a purse or handbag. It was a sign of adulthood to women my age. We knew were becoming women once we began to carry a purse daily. I can remember the day my grandmother told me all about how my purse should match my shoes. It was important to look like a lady and carry a proper purse. I don’t always match my shoes anymore. I do have some very basic clutches and handbags for those moments when it is necessary to match my handbag and shoes. For example at a funeral. I typically carry a small black clutch that matches whatever shoes I am wearing. I also still match my shoes when I dress for church on Sundays.
Usually on Sundays I have my small handbag and then my tote. I use my tote for Sunday school class and then take it to the care and keep my small purse for mass. I know that is a lot but I grew up that way. Church was important and my grandmother would roll over in her grave. I can hear her telling me how socially unacceptable it would be. Most days I carry a tote bag because I need more room and other times it is a nice purse. One thing that always happens is I switch over my wallet and the other little bags I keep in there. My OCD demands that regardless of the bag it stay organized. I was switching things over and thought I would share with y’all a few random things you can find in my purse at any given time.
The tote that I am using is not a Louis Vuitton and I didn’t realize it was a dupe of one of theirs. I just knew that it was pretty and the size I needed. Not to mention it was only $50 plus shipping. Once I realized how much my sister loved it (she always wants my handbags!) as well as others, I thought I would include it in this post and even giveaway a couple away. You can enter at the end of this post.
Lip Stuff
I am always using things on my lips. I use chap-stick, lip gloss, you name it I use it. That is why you will always find at least one tube of something. The only lip stuff you won’t find is lipstick because I hate how it feels on my lips. I do my best to never lick my lips which means I tend to steer clear of flavors as well. I hate dry lips and having a moisturizer for them on hand makes things easier for me.
Hair Clip
I let my hair grow out. That means I pull it up sometimes when I am out and about. That means there is always at least one hair clip in my purse. Sometimes there is a hair clip and a rubber band. In the event that I don’t have one (which is rare) I will use a pen or pencil to pull my hair back. Curly hair in the Georgia heat during the summer can be a disaster.Pulling it up is the only way to tame it.
Credit Card Reader
As a freelancer I have to be able to accept payments whenever, wherever. That is is why I always have my PayPal credit card reader with me. It makes getting money easier from my siblings as well. When we split a payment and I make the full one I can just swipe their cards and get my money back. I just upgraded to this handy blue-tooth one. It has a chip reader in it that makes everything so much easier.
Feminine Napkins
These pretty much explain themselves. I always have and will always carry one or two with me. You just never know when you will need one.
First Aid Kit
I got this kit from PreparaKit last year. It is one item that gets transferred to any bag that I am using. I can’t tell you how much of a relief it is to have a bandage when I need it.
I do add to it and change things in it a little but still this little kit is always with me. This baby goes with me in any bag I take.
Hand Sanitizer, Gloves, & Mask
These are new but always inside my handbag now. I always have some sort of wipes or whatever because of the kids. Now however I have a small bottle of sanitizer in my bag as well as a large bottle with a pump in the car. I keep the one in the car in the cup holder that doesn’t get used often.
It is important to ensure that your hand bag is big enough to carry all the above-mentioned essentials. Living during pandemic times does not mean you have to haul around a tote everywhere you go. There is no reason to believe that your handbag cannot be stylish, sophisticated and carry enough things at the same time. If you are looking for some great options, check out these bags from Pedro.

I’m a minimalist, but I have a six year old, those 2 things contradict each other! I carry my cellphone (which I use mostly for GPS and photos!), keys, a granola bar and tiny bottle of water (my daughter is always hungry or thirsty), chapstick, germicide wipes, coins (you always seem to need a quarter!), a small fold-up grocery tote bag (I ALWAYS need a bag for impromptu shopping), my wallet full of every kind of card from ID to credit to library!), a mini brush and hair tie, and finally a tiny pocket-sized coloring kit (it’s got 5 crayons and 1/4 size pages to color inside a hard plastic case, its so good to keep your kids busy if you find yourself stuck somewhere unexpectedly.)

I always thought that I carried too much, back when I had small children. And I did. Apparently I still do too. I carry my phone, charging cord, keys, small water bottle (dry mouth from meds) Tylenol, tissues, hand lotion, eye drops, small notebook, pens, mints, toothbrush, mini toothpaste. An Epipen because I’m deathly allergic to peanuts and any sulfa based drugs. I’m sure there’s more, but… Let’s just say, I carry all of the things, lol.

i agree that i also don’t see many young girls using a purse anymore. but my 18 yr old does use a cross body bag for her cell and a few things. i use several bags, and alternate according to the season. when i was a teen in the 80’s though, i definitely did match my purse with my shoes! things i keep in my purse, bandaids, lip gloss, chapstick, id’s and small wallet, cell phone, gum or breath mints, something to hold coupons just in case i need them to get a great deal on products i buy, a pen and a small note pad just in case i need to jot something down.
