Ready, SET the table!

Sep 05, 2023 | Rita

Ready, SET the table!

One of the things I did over the last couple of months was buy some new plates. Ma had been complaining that the ones we had were too heavy for her. I found that I had the same problem after my stroke and thought I needed to get something a little lighter so I went in search. I also wanted to get some more little bowl plates that we needed.

Old Small Plates

We had these little plates (shown above) that worked well for lunch or snacks. They also would go in the microwave but these were starting to show their wear and I wanted to get some more. The problem was I couldn’t remember where I got them so I just decided to see if I could get more.

I was on the Walmart app when I saw something similar and loved the blue color. So I ordered four thinking I had gotten the perfect replacements. I didn’t pay any attention to the size.

New Bowl Plates

So when these plates (shown above) came I was more than a little taken back. I wasn’t expecting them to be as large as they were which is much bigger than the original ones. They are almost as big as a regular dinner plate. However, I fell in love with them!

They are so perfect for things like spaghetti  or even a sandwich with chips. Nothing spills out which is something I love. These are now the most used plates in our home. I adore the color and while I had wanted a pattern (it was out of stock when I ordered) I have found that I am happier with these than I think I would have been with the pattern.

I ordered blue because it is the theme color of our kitchen, sort of. All of our dishes and glasses either have blue in them somewhere or can coordinate with it easily. I don’t know why but a few years ago I insisted on this.

New regular plates

Now these are melamine which is actually more for outdoors but they are lightweight which is why we use them. I ordered some regular dinner plates in the same color. Ma can easily pick these up without feeling as though she is going to drop them. I can also carry them one handed while using my cane which means I get to feel more independent.

Truth be told we are loving all of them and I am so thrilled that I took the time to buy them. I normally would have just scrolled past them and not thought twice.

We still use the plates that we got when we first got together. I think it is time to update our table.
