That is what you could call my rebranding efforts lately. I’ve been all over the place and no way have I created a brand that works well together. While on vacation I began a journey that I hadn’t planned on taking. A journey that also led me down a rebranding path I didn’t know I needed to take. One that left feeling heartbroken at times.
I was spending every morning doing some yoga and the would surf around social media. While there one day I came across a logo full of colors that I loved. That got me to thinking and then I went in search of other logos and brands with color. I have no idea why. I had no intention of doing anything about it. I just updated thing before I left and was pretty happy. Or so I thought.
My morning yoga allowed me to take the time to clear my head (and the gassy dog who insisted on sleeping with me), it gave me time to think. At first those thoughts were mostly why on God’s green earth was I attempting to do yoga. I hate yoga. I pushed through. Barely. One day I stumbled across this blog post and I fell in love with the peaches and such. I was going to use that and rebuild Rita Reviews. It was going to be the brand I always wanted.
So I went in search of a designer, found one that was reasonably priced, had a great portfolio which led me to hiring them. I thought if things went well I would hire them for A Lucky Grace as well. If was going custom then I was going all out. They got the proofs back to me and I wanted to cry. It wasn’t anything like I wanted. I thought that was okay since I could ask for revisions. It never looked the way I wanted.
After that first round I knew this designer wasn’t going to be able to handle A Lucky Grace so I went in search of another. I didn’t know what I wanted for there and after she I talked I was thrilled. She had a plan that sounded beautiful.
I got those proofs and ended up with an almost perfect proof. I wanted a different hairstyle on the woman. She had done one for someone else with the hairstyle I liked so I searched her portfolio and that is when I found the same logo but different colors. I burst into tears. I thought I was getting a custom logo, I paid for custom. Honestly I was ready to pull my hair, all that money and I really didn’t get anything close to what I want.
It all left a bitter taste in my mouth. I didn’t know what to do and I decided that I would just get back to basics. I could do that and be happy with what I found. Make things simple without a lot of stress. I ended up with new looks I loved. It was a lot of trial and error when I came to colors.
Rita Reviews
For Rita Reviews I went with a hot pink and green color palette that I found on Pinterest once long ago. I loved it and the green isnt used all over the place. It is for actions and I thing it helps break things up. I changed my tagline to reflect more of what I do and added a typewriter to logo. It gave me a classic sort of look without being too much. All in all I am loving it. I am currently going through each and every post updating the featured images so they mathc the branding. I am also moving all old book review posts to A Lucky Grace where they belong. It is a big untaking but I am thrilled that I doing it. I am updating posts along the way and resharing the ones that I think y’all would love to see again.
A Lucky Grace
This one was a little more difficult until I saw the book logo on Etsy. I knew right away that it was the logo for me. The butterflies coming out of the book could work for my fitness, faith, and life posts as much as they do for books. It couldn’t have been more perfect and I changed the tagline there as well. It was a little more difficult with colors but int he end I pulled the orange, blue, and yellow from the logo and used them. Again keeping it simple. That gave me so much more than I ever thought. I am going through each of the posts there as well updating the featured images and ensuring everything matches as much as it can.
I hope that y’all can see the direction that I am going and I hope

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I’m so sorry you went through that! I hope that the second designer feels ashamed of themselves for trying to pass it off as custom when it was the same as the other site. On the plus side I love the new looks of both sites! You did a fantastic job. I think that if I tried yoga I would also be questioning why I was doing it, it doesn’t appeal to me at all.

I am sorry you went through so much gettin your logos set up. It’s a shame but in the end i think they turned out beautifully.

I like the way it all looks now. Visiting blogs, I prefer a clean uncluttered look and yours is great. I am sorry you had all those problems, there are so many pages that look the same yours does not.
PS fingers crossed what a nice thing!!
