It is the time of the year when we are getting ready to make our resolutions for all of the things we want to accomplish in 2014. One thing that will be on my list and I am hoping on yours as well is the resolution to give back more. Not just financially but also my time to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
I am planning on helping a child that needs a little extra support in the new year. One of the reasons is because 22% of the children supported by Big Brothers Big Sisters are Hispanic which is a number on the rise. the problem is only 9% of Bigs are Latino. Latino youth need help and men are needed more than ever to volunteer. I am sharing my resolution with you because I am hoping that you will reach out and volunteer (and donate) as well. Maybe even talk with the men in your life and get them to volunteer.
Why volunteer? Because children who participate in the Big Brother Big Sisters programs are more likely to avoid risky behaviors like skipping school, using illegal drugs or drinking underage. That allow is a big deal in this day and age.You don’t need any special training and Bigs comes from all walks of life. I know that finding the time to volunteer can be difficult and some of you simply don’t have the time.
That’s okay because a financial donation can help as well. Big Brothers Big Sisters is the leading mentoring organization with more than 100 years of experience and proven positive outcomes. However it takes money to keep this organization going and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America estimates is costs $1200/year for quality professional mentoring support or $100/mo or $25/week. Every little bit helps give a child a better future!
How Can You Help?
Go right now to www.latinobigs.org or www.bigbrothersbigsisters.org for more information about volunteering as a Big and/or to donate. Year-end donations are urgently needed! You can also connect with Latino Bigs on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

Thanks for sharing this information. I think the Big Brothers Big Sisters is a great organization. We have donated to them in the past.
