How many of you have like ton of toys now that Christmas is over? How many of you have swore that this year was the year that you would tackle the toy clutter in your home? I didn’t realize how many toys the kids get until I looked and saw that we needed to take everything home wit us (as we weren’t home for the holidays.)
Not to mention looking around Reese’s room (that’s it above and yes some of those are unopened) did I finally see the light. This is the year that the toy clutter ends once and for all at my house. I am tired of there being more toys lying around than the kids know what to do with and I have a couple of ways to help cut the clutter!
A Full Scale Clean Out
When we finally get home we are having a full scale clean out. Any toy that has not been played with in the last year will be finding a new home. This is ridiculous and something that needs to be addressed right away. I have been a bit lax in this area because I don’t want to upset the kids or they feel attached to a particular toy. However for the older ones it is past time. For the younger ones it’s time they start to learn to play with what they have. That means I spent some time searching the internet for the best solution.
Pley to the Resuce
Pley is the second part of my plan and probably the most brilliant although I can’t take any credit. Pley is a super fabulous company that allows you to rent toys! You read that correctly you can rent toys. So you know what that will do to the clutter at my home? It will make it almost nonexistent. I could kiss the creators of Pley! 😉 The kids will get a box and when they are done I simply send it back and get a new one.
One of the best things is that Pley always offers age appropriate toys. No more guessing if your child will be able to do something or if they will like it. Pley is on top of things for you. Add that in with the large selection of educative toys, including 400+ LEGO sets and popular robotics toys (not to mention the new one they are getting in) and your child will have plenty to be excited about.
Another great things is that Pley is easy on your wallet and the average members save $800 a year. More if you count in all the storage stuff you end up buying for the pile of toys that no one plays with anymore. Not to mention the doctor’s visits for the pieces that somehow always end up embedded in your foot and the little cars that cause you to slip and break your neck.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I always found when my kids were growing up, that less toys equals less clutter. Before birthdays and xmas, they donated toys to the Salvation army…

I have not heard of renting toys! That might be a game changer for parents.

Renting toys is definitely a different concept. I would certainly be afraid my kids would break something and then we would have to pay for it. lol

I love this concept, but in reality would be afraid to try it. I can imagine lots of broken and ruined toys which would probably end up costing us more in the long run!

Okay, this is genius. Seriously! My daughter is young (two) and the toys she plays with are BIG. After Christmas I bought some new storage boxes for the smaller toys. Guess what? She can’t see right into the boxes and bins so they aren’t played with- and she doesn’t notice. I can’t wait to look into pley!

If I could just convince family to stop giving the kids tons of toys we wouldn’t even need to face it.

i definitely needed to read this!! we have too many toys here and I need to get in the play room and clean some of them out. Pley sounds like a great option so that you aren’t stuck with all those toys

We have an annual rummage sale so one of the ways we declutter is to have the kids go through all the stuff in their room. Then whatever they earn at the rummage they get the money. It’s often getting rid of 20 items and they use the money to buy 1 new item. At least 19 items are gone.
