Searching for Delivery

Jan 17, 2017 | Rita

Living out in the country means that a trip to the store isn’t as easy as many thin. With kids and senior citizen’s there are times when it is down right impossible. That is one of the reason’s I shop monthly for our groceries. Yet I have discovered recently that doing that has its moments too. Like when everyone with you decides they’re finished. Even if we haven’t even made all the way through the store yet.

So I went in search of grocery stores or programs that delivered. I knew right away that I needed particular items. After all Amazon will deliver a wide variety of packaged items. I use them but what about when I needed milk? That became my mission. To find a place that would deliver milk and other items way out here int he middle of nowhere.

There has to be someone!

I checked out every dairy across the country that offered home delivery. I got irritated when I couldn’t find one that would deliver to me. Then I stumbled upon Nature’s Garden Express. They deliver via FedEx and I could get my order in a couple of days. They have a weekly box but I decided to go the one-time box route. I liked this idea because I could build my own box as well.

More than Milk

This morning I placed my order. The website said I had an hour left before the cut off time for this week. I decided on a Wednesday processing day when I joined. I added apples, bananas, potatoes, some frozen veggies, bread items, and milk to my order. I spent a total of $107 and some change which meant I got free shipping. I was in zone 2 for their shipping (they explain all this) and when ordering over $100 got the free shipping. The website said that my order would be delivered to me on Thursday. I will of course post an update along with pictures of the items that I ordered.

Fair Prices

All their prices for organic foods and grass-fed meat were reasonable. The gallon of milk I purchased was just over $6. While that seems high I already pay $5 for it and when you figure in gas, time, and energy I have spent more than that. The only thing that was high for me were the eggs and butter. I have paid $8 for butter before but I was nervous about doing it today. The eggs were more than I wanted to pay but that was just me.

More to Come

As I said I will update you when the order arrives. Also I have a list of other companies that I will be trying out this year as well. I will let you know how well they work, the prices, and how we like the products.

I’ve never used a home delivery service for groceries. However, I can see how it is very convenient and helpful.

This would be good for my sister who lives out in the country.

Sounds like you found a good delivery service. I live close to stores, but I’d like to try some delivery services at some point.

I live out in the country, but we do have 1 grocery store, and a dollar store. No WalMarts, or Lowes.

Please do post an occasional update. I’ll be interested to see how this works out for you. I live out in the country, too, and although I have the time, I don’t want to spend the extra money on gas just to get into town and back, a cost that I always figure in when I’m trying to determine the actual price of things. Aside from a few things from Amazon, delivery isn’t something I’ve really considered before.
