Florida
If you love the sun then this is the place for you. Sure, it gets stormy in September over the rain season but for the most part it is sunny all year round. This means you can come here whenever you want to without fear for weather. There are some great villas that are always for sale in Florida and if you have a fun seeking family then this is perfect due to Walt Disney World being in the same state, not to mention universal studios. The city of Miami is close too. It gives you an almost tropical city right on your doorstep to explore and live in. Florida comes with a natural aspect too with hundreds of acres of natural low lands and mangroves frequented by all kinds of animals. There are stunning beaches which border the whole East and West sides of the peninsula.
The Greek Islands
The islands are a lovely place for someone who loves sailing and enjoys the sea. There are dozens of islands to choose from and they are all pretty close together, so if you have a boat you can visit each one as you see fit. The seas are normally quite calm and the again, the heat is great. It can be stifling in the summer on some of the islands, but if you like it you’ll be fine as the humidity isn’t so high. You’ll never be far from culture, as the islands are peppered with wonderful ruins from ancient greece such as the palace of knossos on Crete to the Asclepion in Kos. There is a language barrier here, however the majority of Greeks speak English so you should be fine in getting your words across and there are also dozens of English speaking holidaymakers around to rub shoulders with.
Own Your Own Vacation Home
It’s a dream to own your own holiday home. And you can get one pretty much anywhere you love. You can buy one as you would any other property. But a popular yet notorious method is to invest in a timeshare. With a timeshare, you own your home along with multiple other people, and you share the costs. Many unscrupulous timeshare sellers are, but they are only a tiny percentage. Additionally, they can be a challenge to get out of if you change your mind.
As great as owning a timeshare can be, you might change your mind about ownership. But where do you start to get out of your contracts? Fortunately, many timeshare exit companies are willing to help. But beware of scammers when using one of these. Here’s what to look for:
- Escrow payments, so they aren’t paid until the work is done.
- Minimal or no complaints recorded.
- Offers contracts in writing.
You can use a comparison website or find trusted companies using Google. Just be sure to look out for the three offerings mentioned. You will probably use a reputable company able to help.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

It must be lovely to be able to afford a second home. Being retired, I have considered various places to retire to. Having grown up in the Daytona Beach FL area, I am not drawn there. The mountains tho are a big draw, but wouldn’t do for full-time due to the seclusion factor. Interesting article tho & thank you for all the great ideas!

I would love to have a second home. Many retirement counselors do say that buying a second home when you are younger, where you might want to retire, and renting it out until you want to move there can be a good financial move, and easier to make a change in your life. Of course, if you can simply afford to keep two, well, wow, that is great to have a vacation place ready for you any time!
