I first heard Emmy Rossum sing when she starred in The Phantom of the Opera and I will say that she blew me away. Her voice was simply stunning so I was thrilled when I was offered the chance to review her new album, Sentimental Journey which will be released January 29, 2013. The album is beautiful with vintage inspired music originally sung by some of the most well-known artists from last century. Each track is actually representing a different month in the year which makes this album very unique. Rossum stated this about the song selection:
Each song needed to either lyrically or emotionally reflect the corresponding month,” Emmy explained. “Some songs were obvious fits, like Summer Wind for June, and Pretty Paper for December. Others songs were less literal fits. I chose Nobody Knows You (When You’re Down and Out) for September because, to me, the plaintive melody and lyric emotionally reflect the cold weather creeping in and the sense of melancholy we can get in the fall months.
My favorite song on the entire album had to be Summer Wind because it made me feel joyous. It is the kind of song that makes you want to sing along or dance. The entire album is one that I have listened to several times and have discovered this morning that it is the perfect background music for while I am working. I love to listen to music while I work and until now have not found the right album. Rossum’s voice is simply heavenly and I truly love that none of these songs are full of some of the dirt that many popular songs are full of. I can play this album without having to worry about if my kids are in the room or not. That is truly refreshing!
Be sure to check out Emmy Rossum’s album on iTunes or follow Emmy on Twitter! Also look for Rossum in the movie Beautiful Creatures, which will be released in theaters on February 13th. She will also be making a guest appearance on Conan tonight, Chelsea Lately on January 29th, and The Late Night Show with Craig Ferguson on February 6th. I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I will also catch her on Chelsea! I have kids around all the time and we mostly listen to ‘their” music, top 40’s and some country. I have not heard of her as a singer but anything that is calming and helps me get through the cold winter…something like Summer Wind, I’d probably love!

No he escuchado mucho sobre ella, por obvias razones, pero sin duda adopto su canción en mi lista de favoritas. Muchas gracias por la reseña y soy una nueva seguidora latina. 🙂
