Simple Marinated Grilled Steak

Apr 25, 2013 | Rita

Steakover by walmart 1207

When Walmart and Latina Mom Bloggers asked me to create an original steak recipe to help spread the word of their Steak Over Challenge, where local firefighters compete for top Grill honors, I accepted and was thrilled to come up with something. I am going to be honest and say that while I am perfectly fine with preparing all of the foods when it comes to the actual grilling Edgar does that.

I actually have used this Simple Marinated Grilled Steak recipe before and I am going to tell you that the recipe was merely an accident that I created. One night I went to pour the marinate into the container and poured my drink in there instead. I was so upset but the end result was so good that I have used it several times.

Simple Marinated Grilled Steak

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion, sliced into thick cuts
  • 1-2 cans of cola (don’t use diet because the result won’t be the same)
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper
  • 2 Steaks, about 24-32 ounces total
  • Salt to taste

Directions:

  1. Put the sodas into a large container, place the onions salt, and Cayenne pepper inside.
  2. Put your steaks in making sure that the soda covers them. If they are thin only 1 can may be enough.
  3. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  4. 20 minutes before grilling take your steaks out and let them sit uncovered
  5. Prepare your grill and cook
  6. When finished loosely tent the steak and allow them to rest about 5 minutes before slicing.

Shopping at Walmart

The combination of the heat from the Cayenne Pepper and the sweetness from the soda makes these steaks perfect. You can serve them with whatever sides you choose although we usually do something light like a salad. I used Walmart Choice Steaks because they are certified by the  USDA  for quality which is very important to me. Not to mention that only one in five steaks is good enough to be called Walmart Choice Premium Beef.  You can get more information by visiting  walmart.com/steak.

I have a recipe where I make Pulled pork in a Crock Pot that uses Root beer as the liquid. And it marinates in it, and when it is done it tastes so good. This recipe that you created looks really good and I would love to make it!

This steak looks amazing! It is making me hungry right now. I love the idea of adding cola to it. It’s a perfect world when you make a mistake and it turns out great. I will have to have my husband try this. He is also the BBQ person in our house.

I have to tell you that the steak is making my mouth water it looks so delicious. I have never heard of a steak marinade with cola. But I would imagine that it takes on similar properties as brown sugar? It’s grilling weather so I love to shake things up a bit when it comes to flavors so this is great!

You had me at ‘simple’! The steak looks so yummy in your picture and I like that it marinates for 24 hours – no worrying about what’s for dinner the next night! I’ve only heard of cola in a cake recipe, so this will be fun to try! Thanx! 🙂

I have tried marinates for steak over the years. I think it always makes the steak more tender and tastes a lot better. This recipe for marinade looks delicious and thanks for the instructions. Marinade can turn a cheaper cut of steak into a delight.

I’ve used cola for years to marinate meat. It’s great to be able to stretch a store bought bottled marinade without overpowering the meat. The acid in the cola tenderizes the meat. Strong tea works as well.

I like the spice, too, this cola recipe for marinating sounds perfect. This is the one I’m keeping for when I can do it! thanks.
