Sock and Boots Adventures by D. K. Smith

Sep 03, 2011 | Rita

Sock and Boots Adventures follows Sock and Boots in their Adventures as they learn about sharing, being afraid of the dark, and why not to play in places that aren’t safe.  That’s right, you get three stories in one!  Plus as a very special surprise for your little one, there is a Sock and Books coloring book in the back of the book which features scenes from the stories that you’ve just finished reading.

I love the lilt that Sock and Boots Adventures is written with.  It truly makes reading a pleasure.  The sentences are lyrical and well put together.  The story lines are simple enough for the younger child to understand and follow, yet still involved enough for my five year old to thoroughly enjoy it.

Each of the three stories starts, and ends with a question which is great.  It really gets the kids thinking about what they’re hearing/reading which helps the information sink in, a definite plus.

In “Share” Sock and Boots head to the park to play and bring their lunches with them to enjoy.  Disaster strikes when birds get into Sock’s lunchbox and eat all his lunch.  Luckily Boots has packed a large enough lunch to share which makes both Sock and Boots happy, because it feels good to share.

In “Afraid of the Dark” we follow Socks as he goes to bed. Lying in bed he hears strange noises that make him scared.  He even imagines that a monster is coming to get him.  What does he do?  Gets up, turns on the light and has a look for himself.  After he makes sure that there aren’t any monsters in his closet, or under the bed he returns to bed and settles in for the night.

“Play it Safe” sees Sock being reckless with his body, and putting himself in danger.  Boots has to scramble to save his friend from the washing machine, not a moment too late!

Definitely an amazing set of books, all in all.

Jaime’s Rating:

I loved this set of books.  A must read for all little ones, and a true pleasure to read.
