Spanish Word of the Week: Present

Feb 03, 2014 | Rita

Spanish Word of the Week 600
Fiesta Baby by: JW Illustrations

If you are new here each week I share a Spanish word and the way to use it. It is just something fun that we do. This week’s word is: presentar preh-sehn-tahr’ (verb) which means to introduce, to present.

Here are a few examples of the word in use:

1. Mi compañero de cuarto de la universidad me presentó a mi novia.

My college roommate introduced me to my girlfriend.

2. En la tele esta noche estarán presentando un reportaje especial sobre la economía.

They’re going to be showing a special report on the economy on the TV tonight.

Its odd that there is no word for introduce but rather the more formal ‘to present’. I always had prblems with verbs like these that are totally different!

I think this is going to be one that I would have trouble using correctly. Verbs are always a pain in the tuckus! Thanks for the lesson!

This one is a little tricky. Like many English words, this can apparently be used it two very different contexts : to introduce v. a presentation or report. I wonder how long it would take in conversation to begin to understand the difference…

This will be a good one to try this week. This word has a very different meaning in the way it’s used compared to the English language.

Great sample sentences, sometimes I can get the gist of what the sentence is saying without reading the English version. Today was not one of those cases.
