I walk a lot and many times it is just me and the kids. With hubby working out of town a lot we have a system of me calling him or texting, telling him my route and then giving him the we’re back signal. It lets him know we are safe and sound. We began this after I was walking one afternoon a couple of years ago and there was a car that slowed down then drove past me only to come back by several times.
Luckily for me a police officer came by and I flagged him telling him I was frightened. Also hubby was working nearby and was on his way home when he came upon us. From that moment on I knew that I had to take precautions to be safe even in my small town. Well now I have a new weapon in my arsenal, the React Mobile App.
What this handy app does is allow me to select contacts that I can let know I am safe. They can track me in real-time using the Follow Me feature which is what hubby and I use now everyday when I walk. He knows where I am at any given time and in the case of an emergency or I don’t check in he can alert the authorities.
If I am in need of help or there is an emergency I can use the SOS feature and call 911 with the touch of a button. I really like this because I can teach the kids to do this in the event I am not able to. I love that the app can be used outside of North America too because as you know how kids spend time every year in Mexico and this is a great way for them to check in.
Hubby has it on his phone now as well and it lets me know that he is okay. I worry so much with him traveling and this allows me to know where he is and that everything is fine. On days when he is just too tired to text he can tell me “I’m Safe” which eases my mind.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I finally got an android phone and although I dont go much my son is only 16 and he does. This is something we will use for him. It is frightening to know how often creepers creep. I had been walking about 30 years ago in my nearby town and had a guy stalk me. I had to cross a fence near a creek to lose him and then watched him go up and down streets to find me. It was seriously paralyzing for weeks. And then we living in a town of 410 people but lived just a 1/4 mile from a main highway that eventually became part interstate. Scary.

I really like this idea. I am always concerned about safety, sometimes to a point where it’s unhealthy. But I digress…I also like the idea that I could know my son’s whereabouts. And as a mom, I like that I could know that he’s where he’s supposed to be.

This sounds like a great app. I worry about the kids when they are out and about. So this would give me some peace of mind. I will have to see if they have it for Windows phones. Thanks
