This weekend is Labor Day weekend (just in case someone didn’t know) and it will be pretty busy out on the roads. I was reading an article earlier on holiday hazards (I know! I know! another one!) and read that while New Years and Thanksgiving Day are the most accident prone days Labor Day isn’t too far behind. It went on to show a graph for motor vehicle deaths from 2009-2013 and not once during those years were there less than 300 deaths during Labor Day.
What surprised me the most was that only around 35% (sometimes more) were alcohol related. I honestly thought that number would be much higher. I guess fewer people drink and drive now than they did in the past. It could be that people don’t do it as often on holidays because the police are out and have a zero tolerance policy. At least ours does during this weekend. Not that they don’t any other time, they just tend to enforce things even more this time of the year. I can see more accidents and such because there are more people out and about with it being the official end of summer.
The holiday hazards article was a really good one and I learned a lot of things that I really didn’t know. They break down each holiday given you the numbers so you can see just how many fatalities and such. For this weekend they show that The National Safety Counsel estimated that 405 fatalities will occur. I know in the gran scheme of billions of people, that number seems small but how many of those deaths could be prevented? So remember to be safe when you are out and about this weekend. Buckle up each and every time you get into any vehicle. Don’t drink and drive or get into the vehicle with someone who has. Also leave well ahead of when you need to be where you are going. This will help you not have to speed and give you time for unexpected traffic.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I drove my Mom and daughter last night to a campsite about an hour away. I had a driver pass me on a residential street posted at 25 mph and he was doing 47. We knew that because there was a digital sign tracking the speed. Then we saw him passing multiple vehicles doing about 70-80 mph in a 55 zone with loads of traffic. So glad, we made it safe.
