The summer season is in full swing which means family cookouts and barbecues (or fiestas!) When you have children around it can mean there are lots of hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill. We don’t do a lot of hotdogs for so many different reasons but mostly because of what is in them. Then I was introduced to Applegate Farms. Applegate takes pride in their meats including their hotdogs.
Applegate, understands the importance of health as well as quality when it comes to their meats. They don’t use any antibiotics or hormones on their animals. Their hot dogs are also nitrite free. They are all about natural and organic! Which makes me a HUGE fan! My kids will be thrilled as well because now they can go back to enjoying hotdogs without getting nasty looks from me.
I am so super excited to announce that Applegate hot dogs are now available in many Atlanta area stores. You can check out Applegate’s Facebook page for a product locator to find stores near you that sell their healthy hot dogs.
In celebration of healthy hot dogs and the joy my children will be having over eating hotdogs again , I wanted to share a few healthy grilling tips with you:
- When marinating your meats please remember not to just dump the marinate and then reuse the container. Make sure you thoroughly wash the container that you used. I once had Salmonella poisoning and I would not wish that on anyone.
- Marinate your meats. With many marinade recipes and choices out there, and they can really boost the flavor of your meat without having to add a lot of salt.
- Consider all sorts of condiments not just the standard ketchup, mustard, etc. Try using mashed avocados for a super healthy alternative to mayo!
- Don’t forget the veggies! Throw those veggies onto the grill. Not only are they good for you but they always taste better when they are grilled. The more color you add, the healthier the meal!
- Pay attention to grill times for meats. While you don’t want undercooked meat you also don’t want charred meat either.
- Salsa! Salsa ! Salsa! There is a reason why salsas are so popular. They are not only good for you but they add a lot of zip to your food. Top a hamburger with some fresh salsa for an extra kick.
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

I’ve never heard of Applegate, but I’ll have to try to find some Applegate hot dogs at my grocery store. Usually I get Hebrew National because they are all beef, but I would definitely try Applegate.
