One of the things I always do in the summer is eat lighter. I hate cooling unless it is one the grill. My stove will heat the house up to the point that is unbearable. Summer also tends to be the season that I lose the most weight. It could be from eating lighter or could be that I sweat more. One thing for sure is that my snacks always get better. The processed food doesn’t settle well with me when it is hotter for some reason. I thought I would share some of my favorite summer snacks.
Apples
We love apples any time of the year but it is one of our go-to snacks during the summer. I like them plain and sliced and do occasionally buy them cut already. Typically I pick up enough for the week on Saturday mornings at the farmers market or the local fruit stand. If I can’t the ones I want then I take a trip to the local farm that is the next town over.
Smoothie Bowl
I sometimes have one of these for breakfast or as my mid-afternoon snack. They are filling without being to overwhelming. I will admit though that I have to pay attention to what all I put in there. Too many different fruits and it will be too much sugar. The granola helps give it some crunch and makes everything just right.
Ice Cream
I do very rarely indulge in some ice cream during the summer. The milk doesn’t work for me in the heat. However, there are a few times when I just need the sweet treat. It’s my guilty pleasure. We have a little ice cream parlor in town that we enjoy visiting every once in a while. When out at the pool or nearby, I will most likely have a Popsicle as regular ice cream.
Juice Smoothies
These are a great pick me up. Again, I have to be careful about the fruits I use to ensure there isn’t a lot of sugar. I love having one of these if I am getting ready to run errands. It will keep me from stopping somewhere and buying something I don’t need to eat.
An Adult Treat
I didn’t have a picture for these since I haven’t purchased any yet. However if you want an adult treat then I buy those pouches that you freeze. They come in all sorts of flavors and have the alcohol already in them. I eat them with a spoon when it is hot out and we are at the pool. I can’t take the credit for them though. My sister in-law freezes them and puts a straw in hers. I told her it was a Capri-Sun but there you go. The best thing about these is that it takes them a while to thaw you so have a nice cold drink for a while. You could do the same the Capri-Suns or any of those pouch drinks for kids. Freeze it and then stick it in the cooler. As it begins to thaw they will enjoy an ice cold drink.

I love fruit, so that’s always a good snack for me. We make smoothies & juice almost daily, plus we have a great grill that we use often. It keeps the kitchen cleaner plus my boyfriend is the ‘grill master’. It’s a win-win. ?

Have you ever trie frozen grapes? You can put them in a drink of almost any kind as ‘ice cubes’ and eat them at the end or my favorite is to have them instead of say ice creams or something heavier. They are great to pop into your mouth and enjoy them .

I make my own ice cream in the summer, but only a couple of times, otherwise they’d have to roll me out the door! 😀 I make a nut mix that’s so delicious and full of flavor. It has rosemary, maple syrup, and orange juice in it. Sweet and salty combo. I also love a good smoothie, and Italian ices are refreshing too!
