One of the best things about being a blogger is the fact that I can work from anywhere in the world. As long as I have an internet connection I am good to go. In fact I have worked from some of the strangest places. In airports, on the bus, waiting at the doctor’s office and so many others. I have also worked from my laptop, my tablet, and even my old Blackberry many moons ago. One thing though I learned a couple of years ago is that is alright to take a vacation from my blog as well.
Why you may ask? Truthfully by taking a break from the blog completely I am able to come back to it with fresh eyes. I always have new ideas and am ready to tackle the world. Does that mean that my blog is just sitting stagnant? Nope, not at all (is that double negative okay?) The first time I took a vacation I actually did allow my blog to sit with nothing being posted. Doing that left readers wondering what had happened. The second time, I attempted to work. The problem with that is that there is so much we are doing while on vacation I didn’t have time to work. I ended up so behind and it took me forever to catch up.
Then it hit me. I have a schedule button! I mean, come on! I use that feature at least twice a month. I always pre-schedule my newsletter is out posts each month. That way I don’t have to worry about having them ready. So why oh why was I not utilizing that feature when I took a vacation. I tried it the last time I took a little time off and while there was a hiccup or two it still worked.
So I sat down way back in April and decided what I wanted to talk about and share with you this month. I knew there were times when a guest post or two would come in. Maybe even some other work that would hit my inbox but I knew I could handle that. Once I had my post schedule down I began researching and writing the articles. Starting back in April allowed me to adjust my schedule or change anything that I needed to along the way.
Now, as y’all sit reading this, I am most likely by the pool relaxing. I have already checked my emails and responded to those that needed attention. The family and I have enjoyed a wonderful breakfast and now we have the day to do whatever we have planned. If anything at all. If you ever decide to start a blog or even if you already have one feel free to use that little schedule button. It will allow you to stay in front of your readers and still handle a few days (or even a month) off!
I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.
