It is almost time to take all of the holiday decorations down. Many of you have been out shopping the post holidays sales and finding the best deals. Some are even shopping already for next year. I will tell you that I am not looking forward to taking everything down. I still have a few more days though.
Mostly because I subscribe to the age old tradition of taking your tree down on the eve of Epiphany which is January 5th. I don’t turn the lights on the tree anymore but the decorations are all there until the fifth. Of course leaving them up after that date is considered bad luck as well. So who knows. For us it has always been the fact that everything has calmed down by the time Epiphany gets here.
Going through all of the boxes that I need to store everything I discovered that I need to get a few new containers. While I was going through to make sure the grubby ones made it to the trash in time for the garbage truck I somehow manage to get a click here sticker stuck on my back from one of the decorations. The kids thought it was the funniest thing. They laughed and laughed. It could have been that I ran errands with that thing on there as well that they found funny.
The one thing I am looking the least forward to is making room for all of the new decorations that need to be stored. I am the worst at getting all of those containers and boxes into any sort of order. It seems like every year we end up with more and more. I promised my self that this year was the year that I wouldn’t buy any decorations during the after holiday sales. I have done pretty good so far.
I did manage to pick up a little table for next year though. It is so cute and I got it half off. I saw in the window of one of the local stores when I went the pharmacy. I couldn’t believe the deal I got. The girl told me the thing had sat there all through the holiday without anyone even looking at it.
I admit that buying was a moment of weakness but after talking to the girl at the store I decided that table and I were meant to be. After all no one had wanted it and it caught my eye right away. It is small, almost the size of a small stool. I think I want to use it next year to put Santa’s cookies and milk on it. It will be perfect I know it. The problem is I have to find a place to put it until I need it. It is decidedly Christmas and not something that can be used anytime.
The large lantern I got before Christmas for my table is red but that is the only thing that could make is Christmas decor. I plan on putting it on top of a shelf until next year. It will work with the decor and be put away with no problem.
Do you have any tips for storing your holiday decorations?
