Teaching Teens to #GetThereSafe With Allstate #DiMe #ad

Teaching Teens to #GetThereSafe With @Allstate #DiMe

Disclosure: This is part of a sponsored safety campaign with DiMe Media and Allstate Foundation. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

Daniel will be driving soon and I already have several sobrinas y sobrinos (nieces and nephews) that drive which can be scary. I remember when my father was teaching me to drive and how frustrating it was for both of us. I would love to say that I was different now but I most likely am just like him. In fact I remember being too short to see the orange cones in the giant car I was learning in and my dad having my brother and sister stand in place of the cones. He kept telling me that if I hit either of them my madre was going to kill me. It FREAKED me out! It did, I just knew I was going to get into trouble because I couldn’t parallel park.

Use those mirrors

However all of those tips my padre taught me I am now able to pass on to my own children. Of course I pass them with the esperanza (hope) that they do better than I did. That I really try to get my brother to take them out on the road co my nerves don’t get frayed! Not to mention I am the worst driver in my opinion and since parents are the NUMBER ONE influence on teens regarding their driving skills I want them to be good drivers.

My Top 5 Tips for Teen Drivers

  1. ALWAYS wear your seatbelt. I am forever telling everyone to be sure they buckle up. Most accidents happen within a couple of miles of home. So don’t think that it won’t happen to you.
  2. Turn DOWN the radio! This was a big one that my padre taught me. I love to listen to the radio but it doesn’t need to be so loud that you can’t hear anything else.
  3. DON’T forget to use your mirrors! Many times, especially nowadays, we forget about our mirrors. We have cameras and other things but none of that can take the place of your eyes.
  4. NO cellphone! This wasn’t an issue when I was learning to drive. I mean the pay phone wouldn’t fit in the car 😉 I tell the kids no phone at all. No call or text is worth their life EVER!
  5. LIMIT passengers! Many states actually have this as a law under their license program. I won’t allow more than one or two people in the car with any of the teens in the family or they don’t drive me car.

Allstate Foundation
Celebrating its 10th anniversary the Allstate Foundation’s signature program, teen safe driving, has reached more than 56 million people with resources and information. All of those resources and information has contributed to driving down teen car crash fatalities by nearly 48 percent. Isn’t that awesome? That work continues, especially during the summer months, which are the deadliest for teen drivers in the United States. To mark the milestone, the Allstate Foundation is sharing 10 safe driving stats and giving away $1,000 each day for 10 days. You can help your teen on the road to safe driving by downloading the foundation’s Parent/Teen Driving Contract, State Driving Laws and Driver Coaching Guide.

Share Safe Driving Tips and Win

You can enter to win $1,000 (daily drawing) by sharing your safe driving message on Twitter and Instagram, just tag @Allstate and be sure to use the hashtag #GetThereSafe. On Facebook it is simple! It will be a long time before I have to worry about my son driving, but this is still good info.

My son is just finishing his Driver’s Ed course today! I won’t lie – I worry about him driving. I know he’s a smart kid but driving is tough to learn and to be aware at all times.

Excellent tips, and I like how involved Allstate is. My daughter is 17 but she hasn’t gotten her permit yet, she was in a serious car accident last year with one if her friends who was a new driver, it was terrifying so neither of us is in a hurry for her to get behind the wheel.
