Okay I freely admit that I don’t know much about alcohol beverages. Most of the time I keep things simple but I do like to entertain and I thought that maybe learning a bit more wouldn’t hurt anything. So when I came across The 12 Bottle Bar: A Dozen Bottles. Hundreds of Cocktails. A New Way to Drink on NetGalley I thought why not check it out and see what I can learn.
About the Book
We’re living in the midst of a cocktail renaissance—artisanal cocktails, celebrity mixologists, drinks menus as important as the wine list—and here is a renaissance guide for the home bartender. An ingenious new approach to making cocktails, The 12 Bottle Bar begins with one irresistible idea—you need only these twelve bottles—and shows how, with this versatile but select liquor pantry, anyone can make over 200 delicious, classic, budget-friendly mixed drinks, including sours, slings, toddies, and highballs, plus the perfect Martini, the perfect Manhattan, the perfect Mint Julep, and more.
Developed by two passionate cocktail lovers and written in a smart, compelling voice, The 12 Bottle Bar is a tool kit, a recipe guide, a secret arsenal—all in one. It tells exactly which twelve bottles you need—seven hard liquors, one liqueur, two vermouths, and two bitters—and recommends budget, mid-range, and premium choices. Each spirit gets a chapter, and within the chapters the cocktails are organized by type: Fruity and Sweet (Pom Gin Fizz), Tangy and Citrusy (Pegu Club), and Strong (Satan’s Whiskers). It’s surprising—tequila didn’t make the cut, but genever did, and the authors convincingly explain why. And it’s an informative guide—why to chill vermouth; the importance of bitters (the “salt and pepper” of mixology). Includes contributions from celebrity bartenders and cocktail lovers. Cheers!
My Thoughts
If you enjoy making cocktails at home or want to be the hostess with the mostest then this is the book for you! The 12 Bottles, the title is referring to include 8 Liquors, 2 Vermouths and 2 Bitters and covers drinks with 1 Bottle (Pick Your Poison), 3 Bottles (Adding Bitters & Vermouth) and 4 Bottles (Orange Liqueur). Then everything that you could ever think you would need to know about each of them is listed in their section with recipes. There are several things that I like about this book but I really enjoyed the virgin drinks that weren’t your tired run of the mill ones. I know that Shirley Temples are the norm but you can only have those so many times before enough is enough!

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

My husband is the “bartender” in the family. We host a Christmas gathering and several birthday parties throughout the year. This would be a great addition to his bar – plus help keep the cost of liquor in line.
