They’re Back!! That’s right Pinky and the Bear are back for a second installment along with Flo and several other characters. If you are unfamiliar with Ken Dalton’s first book, The Bloody Birthright, you should. I fell in love with not the characters but also with Mr. Dalton. His writing is more than fresh. He draws in so that you don’t even want to put the book down.
In The Big Show Stopper Bear takes Flo, his sassy mouth girlfriend, to a concert for her birthday. Everything is great except the singer dies as his opening number is beginning. After a few moments it’s determined he was murdered and a friend of a friend is accuses. Bear convinces Pinky to take the case and they’re off.
Pinky is as big a slim-ball attonery as ever. he is also still the best in Carson City. Although in The Big Show Stopper he is trying very hard to make up with his District Atotnery ex-wife Willow. There are moments when you’re not if they will make up or if it will even last. How can she trust a man who will lie to her face.
Bear no longer bartends but works full time now as Pinky’s investigator. He has troubles of his own and all they all stem fromhaving a girlfirend who likes to spend more money than he makes. Add that to the fact that he has a crooked cop hot on his tail trying to send him up the river and you can understand why Bear, at times, takes pleasure in the travelaspect of his job.
Flo still makes you want to punch her in the mouth. I swear there has never been a woman I have ever had that urge about before. She thinks she knows everything, and has some smart answer to everything.
Ken Dalton has become one of my new favorite authors. I can not wait to see what he has in store next for this mismatched family, because truly in the end that’s what they are.
