The Classical Historian’s Medieval History Memory Game is a box set of 64 tiles (32 pairs) that have images of a variety of historical events dating from the medieval time period. some of the picture’s include a monastery, Charlemagne, Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, an Aztec shaman, and many more. Sounds like fun right? The game has a couple of different options for playing.
First is the standard memory game we all remember from childhood. You lay out the cards, face down and kids take turns matching up the pairs. The child who has the most pairs at the end is the winner, simple! The second option is for the teacher (or parent) to lay out the four pairs of word tiles (they are The Americas, Far East, Arabia, and Europe) and arrange the tiles in each category. Then the students study the tiles for a few minutes and the teacher mixes up the tiles. The object is to have the students put them into the correct order.
We did our own version of this in that the kids study the tiles for a couple of days in the correct order and then each morning they woke up I had rearrange something. Their job was to put it back into the correct order, make a note in their journal the wrong tiles, and rearrange again for the next child. We used a breakfast board so each one couldn’t see what the other was doing. The kept notes of the tiles they rearranged into the correct order as well as what they moved out-of-order so we would know. They had a blast trying to fool one another and learned something out of it.
The Classical Historian says the Medieval Memory Game as two-games-in-one, but it’s really much, much more! That is a statement I have to agree with. There are simple so many different uses for this wonderful game.

I live in a small Georgia town that you most likely have never heard of and I LOVE it! My house is more than full as I am a single mother of four & caregiver to my aging mother and uncle. Lover of all things Outlander. Goes to the beat of her own drum woman.

This is a great way to teach the kiddos. My boys like to play matching games and if i can sneak in some learning in there 😉 then im happy!

This looks like a great game for everyone to participate in while learning historical facts. I like the idea of both options for play, but yours seems more engaging and clever! Games like these are great to make school subjects much more fun and interactive, and possibly create a passion within the child to learn more.

I would loved to have had this set for my classroom! There is something about the medieval period that just fascinates kids. Nice way to learn history.

This sounds like a fun game. My daughter is kind of a history buff. She had a wonderful history teacher this last year and he got her hooked on it. I like how you can play this a couple of different ways. I am sure she would beat me. 🙂
