The Crazy Weather {Canon EOS Rebel Giveaway}

Jan 16, 2013 | Rita

Canon EOS Rebel

We have had some super crazy weather here lately, haven’t we? I live in the South and it has been very much like summer this past week but there is a chance of snow tomorrow.  Isn’t that nuts? I will admit that I miss snow something terrible and while part of me is wishing and hoping for some the bigger part of me says please no because my hubby will be coming home and snow will delay him.

I have been thinking about all the pictures of the weather I take and thought I would help someone else have a chance to enjoy the same thrill come spring. So I am giving away another  Canon EOS Rebel.  Some of the features include:

12.2-megapixel CMOS sensor

Creates an effect 1.6x field of view and captures high-resolution images with exceptional clarity and tonal range.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens

With aspherical lens element, circular aperture and optical image stabilizer for incredible picture detail. EF lens mount for use with Canon EF and EF-S interchangeable lenses.

2.7″ color TFT-LCD monitor

Live View function and 170° viewing angle for improved viewing. Eye-level penta-mirror viewfinder with adjustable diopter control.

and much, much more.

I am running this a bit longer than last time because I am going to be  away and trying to keep the giveaways that end while I am away to a minimum so I can have a little time to enjoy myself. Enter below for your chance to win. ENDS March 3, 2013 at 11:59 pm EST

Last year we had and unexpected snow storm in September. I took a picture for memories. I remember going out to my garden to pick the rest of my zucchini. Everything was destroyed the cold got to them. I sure was bummed. The picture did turn out great.

My best weather picture was taken this summer. My husband and kids had spotted a squirrel trying to cool himself down in the 100+ degree weather. He was laying down flat as a pancake, nearly under the rear tire of our car…. the shade had kept the ground cool 🙂 Clever little guy, and made for a great picture because we Never see a squirrel lying still! You know it’s hot when…

I absolutely love taking pictures. My best/ favorite picture is on a lake. The sky was beautiful and if u turn the picture upside down it looks the same bc of the reflection of the lake.

My best weather photo I took was probably when a storm had been passing over while I was shakerboarding for lil caesars. The clouds looked absolutely amazing, kind of like an upside down sea. If videos count, I managed to catch quite a few lightning bolts on my phone during a storm that killed all the power here in Montana. It was really creepy because everything was pitch black, no one having generators or emergency lights around here.

I was forced to work during tropical storm/hurricane/super storm Sandy while it was skimming the Florida coastline. The gusting wind, pouring rain, lightning and crazy cloud formations made for some great pics throughout that horrible lame day. The background pic of my twitter profile is actually my favorite one from that day but only about half the sand that was blowing around would show up in the pics my iPhone took which is why I’d love a more professional camera. Hope I win, thanks for the opportunity!

It was the dead of winter in Michigan during a blizzard. I was 20 and working at a 7-11. The old brick building across the street had a red door that I always stared at. Between the dull brown bricks, the grayish light of the mid morning and the whiteout the snow caused, that red door was screaming photo op. I positioned my cheapy 35mm so that a bush dripping of tiny icicles was in the foreground and blurry. That door was perfectly focused, slightly off center and I was lucky enough to catch a few blurry flurries in the frame too. To this day its my favorite picture I’ve ever taken.

One of my best weather photos was actually one that I took with my Blackberry. Remember, it’s not the camera (although a nice camera helps!) it’s the photographer. The photograph was that of a massive snow drift that had reached beyond the roof of the building where I worked. A tunnel had to be dug to to get to the door. This was in 2010.

It was weird because I had accidentally left me camera in the car after my step-daughters graduation and the next day I saw the rainbow outside of work and hurried and took it and it turned out beautiful.

My best weather picture would probably have to be when I was in San Antonio, and I was able to get a quick shot with a disposable camera of the rain falling on the river walk. Surprisingly, when the picture was developed, this “quick shot” turned out to be the best picture out of the bunch. I love rain, so I’m biased. 🙂

I would love to win this camera, as everyone else would, too. It’s such a great opportunity!

My best weather photos are of a snow storm that occurred about a year or so ago in Washington state. It was about mid-afternoon and the grey snow clouds covered most of the sky with just a hint of sun peeking through. Within 10 minutes the snow was coming down hard enough to cover the Alder trees, ground, and just about everything else surrounding our home. I managed to take some amazing pictures of large snow flakes as they were falling using just my cheap Kodak camera. I also managed to capture my two now 13 year old dogs playing in the new fallen snow. My pups are no longer with me so these pics are even more meaningful to me now.

My best weather photo was of the core of a tornado that was forming directly overhead. You could actually see the directional rotation of the cloud formation. Being a severe weather spotter, I reported the activity, which was confirmed on radar. The rotation increased and actually formed a tornado which struck several communities about 60 miles east of my position. The photo was used on air by our local television station.

Back when I took pictures with film I tried to take a picture from my front porch of the huge snowflakes falling. When the pictures were developed I found that almost none had come out. But one that did turn out had not only some big, big clumps of snow falling, but it also ended up having the a crystal from the heart-shaped wind chime lit up from a red Christmas light. It was very pretty.
