How many of you homestead? How many of you have consider doing it? If you don’t know homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. That means you live by growing (and/or raising) your own food, home preservation of food, and you may also produce textiles, clothing, and craft work for household use or sale. Some of it sounds interesting to me. To be honest a lot this sounds more like everyday life in the south. Many people I know grew up on farms or have gardens their family ate from. Their grandmother canned or persevered food and made them clothes. Sounds interesting right? Well there is a subscription box called The Homestead Box that will help you on your journey.
The Homestead Box has so many different boxes to choose from. They have a box for the gardener, for someone raising backyard chickens, the woodsman (or woman)the homestead kitchen, even a box for emergency preparedness.
I received the Homestead Herbal Remedies Box. It is full of the items you could possibly need to feel better when you aren’t at your best.
The herb cutting scissors are awesome. I’m not sure that is what they are actually called but that is the name I have always called them by.
As you can see there are several blades which makes cutting herbs much easier. You make one cut in a handful of herbs and all of the blades just cut right through them. This is a must for any kitchen in my opinion.
Every kitchen needs a good mortar and pestle. It is one of those items that once you start using it you will be amazed at how often you will use it. This one is a good one that I am planning on giving to my sister. I actually already have one of those old style ones that I adore.
I was excited about this particular box. It is for colds, flu, coughs, and the such. We haven’t had a chance to use it yet since no one has had the flu or anything. However, I think this may become a staple in our pantry.
As you can see there were three items in the box. A jar of honey, a jar of the elderberries, and a shot glass. there are instructions on how to mix it and use it. Ma said her grandmother used to make them cough syrup like this and she swears my it.
This Herbal Remember Sampler box was packed to the brim with samples. I had never seen so much packed into one small box. If you are into herbal remedies or just like some of the various herbs included this is more than perfect for you.
As you can see there was a wide assortment.I had to be super careful with these because lavender was included and I am allergic to it. I used gloves when touching the packs, threw out the lavender right away and then wiped off the outside of the remaining packs just to be careful.
The bulk herbs from Starwest Botanicals are great. They make wonderful teas and y’all know how much I love tea. The Spearmint is my favorite. It is perfect for settling an upset tummy.
This book was probably my favorite item out of the whole box. I love finding remedies that aren’t mainstream. Many of the things I use I know I got from my mother who got it from her grandmother. For example, I always cut a potato open and put it on a bruise. It helps keep the bruise from looking as dark and ugly as it does. They work for splinters too, the potato will help draw the splinter out.
FINAL THOUGHTS
This was certainly a different sort of box for me. There were some items that I loved and will use while there were others that just wasn’t for me. That happens when you get a subscription box and I am okay with it. While I am certainly not a full time homesteader I think there is more than enough useful items for anyone to use in this box to make the subscription well worth it.
DISCLOSURE:Thank you The Homestead Box for providing me a box for my review. Please remember that all thoughts are 100% my own.
