To Upgrade or Not: That is the Question

Feb 09, 2013 | Rita

My Computer

Does this ever happen to you: You are right in the middle of watching a video online only to lose your connection or it take forever because your internet speed is so slow? It happens a lot at my house especially since we have so many different devices that connects to the internet.

I have been thinking about upgrading to comcast business internet so I can get things done without having to wait so long. You all know how much time I alone spend on the internet which usually means that other family members suffer because when they get on the speed slows down for them. I also had when we have bad weather that it almost guarantees that I will not be able to get much work done. Switching to business internet makes sense for us.

Most business internet is designed to handle a larger work load which I honestly believe I need. My biggest concern has been the cost but after doing some research I have discovered that it is truly not much more than what I am paying now for the top package with my company. I am going to get it setup once I get back home and find out what I have missing and hope that it simply blows me away. It has to be better than what I have now. When I upgraded with my company the guy told me that my internet would be like The Enterprise in warp speed.

Honest to goodness that is what he said but he lied because it is more like The Enterprise got some bad gas or something. I think it needs one of those fuel cleaners! I get so frustrated and it only seems to slow down when I have a deadline I am trying to meet. Business internet is where it is at when you work from home and spend all day on the internet.

We switched to Comcast business class about 6 months ago. Best thing ever! Our speeds are much faster and our connection is much more stable. It really doesn’t cost that much more than what we already had. I think you will love it.

Thanks for the tips. I am on comcast regular and it is so frustratingly slow lately, I’m goingto look into this!

My household is in the midst of switching Internet providers too, mostly to get out of the clutches of Time Warner Cable. It’s hard to know whether other services will be an improvement. We are considering AT & T U-verse – I wonder if they have a “business” service. My husband likes to stream movies and that requires a fast connection!

I sometimes experience slow speed when others are using the Internet on Comcast. But I am not going to change to business because we do not spend a lot of time on the Internet. I think that this is a good service though for those who need it!

We used to have dial-up internet. Not ideal at all! We switched internet service providers and now have a satellite type receiver and internet that is about 10-20x faster than dial-up and it doesn’t tie up our phone line!

That is the worst feeling when your internet is slow and it cuts out in the middle of something!

not sure if this is the right thing for me. i talked to my company and business does not mean anything but a littler better service.

Hate slow internet service. We have suddenlink (only one in our area) and so far so good. I think after having it for 2 months we have had only 2 issues. But I am also the only one online and if we have me online, netflix running and another wifi running one of the 2 won’t work.

I understand your frustration. I am afraid that many internet/cable providers really lack in customer service. We had to relocate for work and our company was nothing but sympathetic to our situation. When we signed up for the service in Kansas (Surewest) the technicial who installed our service told us not to worry that we wouldn’t be charged any fees if my husband had to relocate for work. Well, when we had to move, it turned out that it wasn’t true. The technicial had no business making that promise. I really believe they told us what we wanted to hear to ensure we signed up with the service. The service crashed sometimes and when we called to report an issue, a machine instantly answered the phone (reading our phone number we called from) and played an automated message that they were “aware of the problem”…click. Like I said, lacking in customer service. I hope you get it worked out, maybe ask then to trial any new service, that way you can test it out for your needs.

we question ours all the time, but don’t have much of a choice. I understand when it something unforseen like a weather related thing but we are out a lot. When I was doing business from home it was more than annoying, I did also have sales deadlines and I hated to disappoint. I actually gave it up in part to the poor service. It’s stressful!

I hadn’t even thought about looking at a business class service, since we don’t have a business. It is usually just me on the Internet during the day and, being mostly a noob, it is usually okay forme. Hubz, though, is a real geek. and I sometimes call him an Internet hog. 🙂 I will have to mention this to him.

Huh! I had no idea that business class was not that much more. We don’t have a business so I never considered it either…. but we are avid gamers so maybe I will have to call and see how much the upgrade is….

that happens to use but its because our router needs replaced, our service is great because there are only a few other homes connected to our line

It will be better for your business to get things done fast. They also have a separate customer service if you’re having a problem, right? The lack of that would put me off, though.

Yeah, it is frustrating when the entire family shares a single router and it results in an imbalance of internet speed. Since you work for home, I agree that investing in the business internet would be a good upgrade option.

We have the midspeed/midcost internet from our local cable company. It is pretty fast actually, but maybe you need to have them come out. Maybe something is up with your connection!

Our cable compant offers different tiers of service including one for business. We have standard and honestly after seeing elsewhere I dont see a difference. I do have to admit the customer service is bad though.

It happens a lot at our house, we have Windstream and have to call quite often to get it re-booted, it is quite annoying. My son is a big gamer, so I think that is part of the problem, it seems to happen only at a particular time, when you are trying to do something important. Ugghh!!!!

  25. Marti Parks says

I use my local cable company for internet service and the customer service is not very responsive, there is nothing worse than a slow connection.

I wish we had an option of Comcast. It is not available in our area. Our cable seems so expensive and so slow compared to other companies.

No matter how much I love technology, sometimes it makes me nuts when I have to try to make a change! I am glad to have read this though! I may need to switch in the near future!
