“There is a tool for every job out there.” My father once told me that. At the time I thought he had flipped his lid. I didn’t care about tools or jobs. I was too young to care about all of those things. Yet, now as an adult I remember those wise words as well as the moment he said them to me. It’s funny how things come back to us when we need them the most. He was talking about tools that you hold in your hand at the moment of him telling that.
Yet I learned through the years that regardless of what you are doing there is almost always a tool out there for you. It may not be the right tool for you or even the one that you thought you would need but it is there. I know that if I want to repair something I need to find the tool I need. Which is why there is a small toolbox in my home.
I always search for the right tool in my business life as well. There are times I want to do something a particular way or I need something else to look a certain way. When I don’t know how to make it work or need help I go in search of that tool. Like I said that tool isn’t always the one you want at the moment. For example, I needed (and wanted) one calendar where I could find upcoming book releases all in one place. I started by creating my own calendar.
The problem was that was taking forever and I didn’t have access to every single upcoming release. I need a large list of them since it made selecting books for pleasure and reviews easier. I came across a site that had the calendar I needed. It’s not as pretty as the one I created but it is more functional than mine. So while it wasn’t what I had wanted it was what I needed.
I had the same problem when I upgraded WordPress to the new editor. It took me a little while to get comfortable with it. It had blocks and that had me a little confused. Also there were things I normally did that I wasn’t able to do in the new editor. So I went in search of the tool that would allow me to do things the way I wanted. It took me time to find what I needed.
There was also plenty of trial and error. I thought something would work but then it didn’t do what I wanted. Another thing crashed the whole site. After a few days I had what I wanted and was ready. A few more days of learning how to use all the new blocks with the new bits and pieces and I was one happy gal. Having the right tool for the job is nothing more than taking the time to find that tool. Whether it is right at your fingertips or
